you're absolutely right, pal. My colleague at work today (a cockney lad also living here in the German capital) was just telling me how he got right riled up in the pub as people kept barging past without saying excuse me or sorry. Telling me that it's typical German.
I personally don't notice it, I more notice how often the English say sorry in everyday life when I'm in England...
I'm from the north: Hameln, the english call it Hamelin or Hamlyn (Pied Piper of). Heidelberg's lovely...very historic. Did you do uni there? Got a famous uni there, I think. I also used to live in Pirmasens which is that part of Germany (south-west).
