2020/21 Moise Kean

.....there was one game at the end of last season where there were signs, but even taking all the excuses he hasn’t been effective. I’d have thought he’d be ideal for us coming off the bench but I doubt any of us think he’s a genuine potent threat that could turn a game.
The thing is that in many games he was given like maybe 1-2 mins at the end of games to show what he can do, that's hard for anyone to show anything in that time frame. No arguments that his attitude and application seemed poor but the club are far from blameless in this situation imo.

He will have had to have played very well indeed to be worth as much as £60m in which case I would hope to be able to persuade him to stay with the promise of CL football

If not we sell and use the money to bring in a top quality striker plus change towards a right sided player.

I may have gotten carried away with the 60 million price, not because I don't think it's possible, but because post covid market is gonna bring down transfer fees.

But my point is that it's not outrageous. Young hyped players go for a lot.

Pullisic 60
Jovic 60
Dembele 130
Joao Felix 100

Kean is young, he is hyped, he will score goals for a stacked team, he plays for a historic national team, and he has Raiola at his agent. If he does well, we will get money. That's for certain

...sorry, Simon, I have to disagree. He’d have been given plenty of game time if he’d been potent and positively influencing games. Bit of a ‘cart before the horse’ scenario expecting a manager to keep playing him until he starts to be effective.

it really is up to players to prove they are worth game time.

He was the wrong player at the wrong time. When we signed him we already had a talented young striker trying to establish himself we didn't need 2. DCL has gone on to make it which meant it would have been even more difficult for Kean to get opportunities if he stayed. If DCL hadn't made it there would have been to much pressure on Kean to score lots of goals. I think we need to sell him for as much as we can in the summer.

The difference is that Dom has worked his socks off in training and on the pitch. He is Everton. The training staff told him what he needed to work on and he did it. The effort has been there and he looks like he's wanted to play for us from day 1.

If Ancelotti, a fellow Italian who wanted to buy Kean at Napoli doesn't mind him going to PSG. Then you know something is up. It was like he just went through the motions with us.

Dom wasnt amazing last year but his effort alone kept Kean out.
We don't really know how Kean was in training. We don't know what Kean was told to do or what he did or didn't do on the training ground. Kean was probably allowed to go because he wanted to and he probably wanted to because he didn't think he would get enough chances here to develop due to the form of DCL and Richarlison. And while I totally agree that Dom has worked his socks off. He wouldn't have got the chances to work his socks off in the first team if we'd had someone up front at the level he's showing now, when he was trying to break through. There's no denying that in this sense, circumstances have been more favourable to his development and first team opportunities than they have for Kean.

Please don't take this as a slight on DCL. he's taken full advantage and totally deserves his spot as first team regular and the international call up.

Positively influencing games in 2, 3 or even 12 minute cameos?

I wanted to give him a chance but after the poor performance against Fleetwood I lost pretty much all hope that he would succeed here.

The circumstances surrounding his time here perhaps weren’t ideal but he was still given ample opportunity to impress. If Ancelotti believed he would have offered us something this season he would have kept him.

It’s good to see him get some goals to help rebuild his stock, but if he couldn’t score for PSG in that league he would be in serious trouble.

Could be some thing in what you say. I wonder as well what was his attitude in training.

...whatever it takes, youngsters have to grab their chance. I’m not sure of the breakdown of time he was given off the bench, but he has started games and I think he might have even been taken off in one at half-time. The time he‘s given is a reflection of the faith and trust his manager has in him.

As Ancelotti said more eloquently than me, ‘the pitch is the same size, the goals don’t move and there’s 11 players in the opposition. Good players don’t find football complicated’.

Anyway, he’s not here to help our cause so we watch with interest from afar.
In fairness neither have Gordon or Dom at the same age. Only signs. I just think you're applying different standards to Kean and maybe you could argue that's ok given his price tag

So you think Dom would have developed to the stage he's at now in the same circumstances? I don't think it's so likely. That's the only point I was making. Some are making out Kean had had the same opportunities as DCL and he clearly hasn't.

Whenever he started, he scored. I think that's pretty positive.
