Someone said that after the West Brom game and having watched it again, it was complete and utter bollocks, and just shows you how certain sections of our support will make up things to drive a player out of the club. Embarassing really, but not surprising.
It just seems very Matt Damon esque criticism to me. He's had a number of niggling injuries, there was even a report in the Dutch press about him going to see a specialist about something. None of that gets taken into consideration, it didn't even get a mention. The fact that he was going off with cramp tells me it's a physical thing. Lets not forget that he had a similar problem when he first joined the club, so his supposed 'bad attitude' isn't a definite in my eyes.
That, and he's playing out of position, a position he has very limited experience in when you look at his career. He played well there when Arteta was flying alongside him, but that hasn't been the case this season, and he's clearly struggled. He's been poor, there's no getting away from that, I certainly don't want him in our starting eleven at present, but to make him out to be this definite, ultimate snide going by rumours on internet forums is madness in my opinion. The same people will tell you Arteta (this season) and Cahill (last season) aren't arsed, two of the most honest, hardworking players we have at the club - a player like Heitinga hasn't got a chance really.
Why would any player embarrass themselves and purposely play poorly to get a move? It just doesn't make sense to me. I think there's a major difference between someone struggling and someone who isn't arsed at all. I think back to the last Stoke game where he was much better in terms of performance. What, did he decide that was it? I'll have a good game and then stop trying again...
He's not playing purposely badly. He just doesn't look at all interested.
I guess a lot of that is up for interpretation; you call it post-world cup tiredness, or playing out of position. You're definitely at least partly right, but as the sourced up folk have said, he's pining for a move elsewhere. Surely, putting two and two together, you can see why he could be accused of not being bothered?
