4, Gibson, and yes we do. We play 2 don't forget.

We're in 4 competitions next year so we need 2 teams.

I was making the point that we dont need to play 3 holding mid-fielders as I' seen suggested here " Barry, McCarthy & Besic - damage will be done etc.." Would be a monster of a defensive midfield but not what we need.

If we do sign him I presume its cover for either Gareth Barry or James McCarthy? we dont need 3 holding mid-fielders.

How many more games are we playing due to the Europa League. Offcourse we need 3 holding mid-fielders who are good enough to be starters.

He might also play a diamond in the middle, with Barkley, McCarthy, Barry and Besic and then play Mirallas and hopefully Lukaku up front.

think he meant in the starting XI

We are a much bigger club than Stoke/Fulham/Sunderland even if we have less money to spend on transfers our name, history and support base allows us to get the players at a cheaper price than those teams and it puts us up the pecking order whenever they choose who to play for - the fact is those teams go for them but rarely get them as the "bigger" clubs normally come in and pinch them.

For me it's not the price of the player that I care about but their value relative to their price. I wouldn't want to spend 15m on a player with no resale value but I would gladly spend it on one who would make a profit even if they're 20m etc.

But this season more than any other is the season we need to spend wisely due to the extra money. Waste it now and a few teams may leapfrog us permanently. Spend it wisely and we could be up there for the next 5 years. But we do need to spend it.

A 4 million player who plays out of his skin

Is better than a 30million player who does nothing.

Ita all relative as you say

Rotation, Roberto wants to be able to field completely different sides for Europe so that the players playing at the weekend don't need to travel mid week, he even mentioned splitting the coaching staff so while one team is traveling to the Europa the team for the weekend continues to prepare uninterrupted at FF. We could play Barry and McCarthy in the prem with Lundstram on the bench and Gibson and Besic mid week with Ledson on the bench, Likewise with Lukaku/Kone and Traore/McAleny etc.
Bobby might think twice about putting too many second choice players in EL away games once he sees the size of the Everton following for one.

It's a dilemma.

If he's a centre mid, less Osman.

If he's a centre half, less Alcaraz.

Hmmm

I always thought that of Mustafi mate - the lid is likely to have a world cup medal tomorrow.

That's true. He does seem very suited to a holding mid role, and he'd be ideal for our Europa games.

If we can get him for £2-4m there's no way he'll drop in value.

Rotation.

Everyone needs to be realistic that rotation is a big part of this season

And competition for places in the squad

I think its a masterstroke if he is another McCarthy type.

Looking at the videos (nothing else to go on) he reminds me of Rino Gattuso.

I actually think if he can adapt quickly he may actually be first choice alongside McCarthy by the sexond half of the season as Barry may start to tire and need to be rotated.

I know that's what Roberto said, and it sounds like a great way of dealing with the early group games. But it sounds a bit too good to be true, doesn't it?

Everything is so positive at Everton these days, such a change from Moyes' last 4-5 years, he'd be sulking in interviews with that furrowed brow and angry eyes about now.

If the rumoured signings come off the fans will be buzzing to see these lads play, Gibson and Besic with Traore up top would easily be good enough for the group games in Europa, could do with another really good no 10/winger to rotate/compete with Ross though.
