National academies and club academies

Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
I was reading about the French national academy at Clairefontaine in response to another post and found out that France has nine such academies around the country.

With the FA scrapping our own national academy at Burton due to the cost over-runs at Wembley we have precisely none. This got me thinking about the club academies because obviously many have been built at considerable expense. What would be the difference? Lets take Jack Rodwell for instance. Would he do most of his training at an Everton academy or an England academy (assuming the French model were copied)?

It would be interesting to know the difference in approach, whether perhaps national academies focus much more on skills rather than the competition done at clubs?

The fact the national scheme has been scrapped in this country is shameful, a false economy of huge proportions. With already have very few naturally skilled players coming to the fore, how can we hone the 'not so good' player. I honestly think that many of the prem accademies are over flowing with talent from overseas, at the cost of home grown players. We need a central school of excellence to ensure the better home grown players are nutured properly........the future for such a big industry as football is bleak based on these facts. Basically what is taught there is obviously important but not to have one at all is criminal.
