Evening all GOT members,

I am asking for some help I guess. I found out on Friday that I am off on a trip to Nepal sometime after September. Not sure when yet as its during school time. I am a teacher and have been given the opportunity to go to Nepal and work with a school over there. Are main aim is to set up some water sanitation and pumps and develop the education the children achieve, particularly in Science which is my subject. The national council have given another teacher and myself about £1000 (know exact figure in a meeting in September) to cover our costs and flights etc. We have estimated that we will need at least double that to go.

I have to raise the other amount myself and was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to raise some money. Sponsored sporting events was my idea but its such a common thing to do. I want to do something a bit different but challenging at the same time. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading and I hope to hear some interesting things soon!

Fair play and that Luke but to be honest mate am always skeptical about schemes like this. A group of students were recently doing fund raisers in order to pay for them to go and build a school in Africa but I couldn't help but think donations could be better served than going towards a flight expense.

If I was going to be charitable, unless I was skilled in say, water sanitation and felt my skills will be of significant use in places like Nepal - then I would focus any dedication closer to home, were my time would be better used.

But anyway, best of luck to you and good on you for offering your time.

I can completly see where you are coming from and agree with the fact that there are plenty of worthy causes in the uk. However, what makes someone in the uk more needy than in Nepal and visa versa. Lots of the trip is education and improving English and science. a better education could only help them in the long run.

Anyways, I do value your opinion and we will see what happens.

My girlfriend is in Nepal now, will be there for another month. She is working in Patan Hospital as part of her Uni course.

As someone else said though, Lands end-John Ogroats bike ride or something similar is a good idea
