Thinking of taking advantage of this scrappage scheme. My cars on its last legs, its bonnet release handle breaking was the last straw...

Also making daily 30+ mile hikes to work these days so could do with a car that is more reliable.

Looking at the cheapest scrappage schemes and a Hyundai i10 Classic 1.2 for £5,000 doesn't look bad. Can't phone for finance quotes until Monday though so anyone got a general idea? Cant even find APR on their website.

A review says its available for £85 a month on a PCP, can't see that after interest....

Anyone got a new car through the scheme?

Ever thought of gettin' a motorbike, Dan? a 125cc will do 90 to the gallon and it's exciting dodging the cagers out there. :)

Your better off just buying a newish car. You might get a new car, but new cars lose at least £1000 as soon as you drive it out the showroom and a car like a Hyundai i10 Classic would have very little trade in value down the line.

Its not all its cracked up to be IMO.

This.

Unless you have a fetish for new-car-smell don't bother.

Get one that's a year or two old and save a fortune.

I know nob all about cars though, so probably best not listening to me.

Thing is though lads, your looking at 5,000ish for a decent "newish" car anyway, which would need an MOT. A new car wouldn't.

I know a guy in Doncaster who buys 'write-offs' (insurance write offs, not actual write offs) , does them up and flogs them for next to nothing.

My mate got a 6 year old Mercedes e-class for £2600.

Absolutely mint condition. Automatic and loads of other fancy stuff. Nothing dodgy at all. All above board guvnor.

He did have a horrible 'new' Corsa, sold it for £3000 cash and bought the merc.

£400 profit and quite an upgrade.

Yeah but if you buy a low milage 1 owner 1, with FSH, it will sail through every MOT.

The car I am getting hopefully is only 1 year old, and it's about 3 k cheaper or around £100 a month cheaper than the brand new model. Would have had to pay almost £750 to get it on the road. Madness.

What do Scousers drive these days?

I once got pulled over in an Escort and the police said I was in a Liverpool Take Away due to the high volume of scousers coming over to Chester and robbing our Fords.
