New DOF

Go get Ashworth and target the key people he works with and any others he wants.

As I said yesterday and have just seen @Eggs had written the same thing, the manager doesnt need to be Potter.

As long as the correct infrastructure and personnel are in place then a younger, dynamic manager who followed the ethos of the DOF and past club culture would be ideal.

….perhaps we have all been putting the cart before the horse. Ideally, the urgency should be bringing in the DoF ahead of interviewing the managerial candidates.

Good to see the club have been listening to my advice

There were some rumblings recently that Ashworth was seriously considering joining Newcastle. If true that we might be after him, would be an interesting case study as the jobs would end up being so different. He seems like the type that would prefer to have a remit to build and develop a young team (which we are being partially forced into due to careless spending) rather than having an open checkbook to attract high profile signings.

As others have said, this is all moot unless Moshiri has a come-to-god moment and adopts some self reflection, but I would not bet on it.

Michael Emenalo is another interesting name. He supposedly turned down Newcastle recently. If they are willing to relinquish control, I could see Moshiri and Usamov being interested based on how he helped build Chelsea and how well he worked with Abramovich.
Spot on, I've said this a couple of times in here, Emenalo took on the job at Chelsea and completely restructured them, at the time they were being run almost as badly as we are. He did a great job at Chelsea and then showed that he has principles by resigning rather than work with Mourinho, who was appointed by Abramovic against Emenalo's advice.

There's also the thing of hiring the right DoF too mate.

Brands fir example was highly rated in the role, but even if you take away the fact he was hamstrung in large parts by meddling in his role from moshiri and others at the club.

He came from a role in a country where the way a DoF operates is not replicable here.

In Holland it's all about the academy and about recruiting from SA where the outlay is super low and possible reward huge.

Try replicating that here you'd get no work permits and a youth system would take 5+ years to show any tangible reward.

So essentially we recruited a DoF whose two main strengths where gonna be almost none factors here - and he had to go shopping in markets he had never really dealt with before and had little knowledge of

I firmly believe any new DOF should already have experience and some kind of track record in English football. I can't think of many DOFs who have been successful without this, apart from perhaps Emenalo - although I'm not really sure what his background was before Chelsea.

You can see with the guy Monchi who everyone raves about. Once he left Spanish football to Italy he wasn't as successful.

Edit: Beguiristain at City is an exception

This....If Duncan looks he's doing ok, surely he should be left in charge until the end of the season. In that time, we should identify and appoint the right man as DOF, he should then take a look and see if he wants to keep Duncan as head coach and if he doesn't he should pick the head coach he wants.

I know this is a stretch, believing that the Iranian lunatic can allow a DOF to do his job without interference, but, it really is the only hope of a long term solution for us. We really are such a mess.

Emanalo had i think been at Chelsea a few years in other roles before being promoted to technical director.
