New Everton Stadium

He did but that can have multiple meanings. It's fair to assume West Ham's ground was not built with football in mind. Ours will almost definitely which makes it purpose built however it could be also built with the ability to be converted when necessary for the games.

It just too coincidental the two things are happening at once and the council will be left with an atheletics stadium no one will need when finished.

Plus esk is obviously ITK but his info does get a bit distorted by the time it reaches us.

Why would anybody build a football stadium, then spend a fortune on the capability to alter it to an athletics arena on the far from likely assumption that Liverpool might be chosen to host a one off, 2 week, commonwealth games?

Have Liverpool won the CG bid

GET IN

If we are using the same architects as Roma it points towards a joint commonwealth games and Everton stadium venture.

Given that the esk also said there's a good chance we won't own it then it's looking like a West Ham situation is the most likely. Let's hope it's more etihad than West Ham but that requires additional money and does the new owner intend to spend. That's the big question.

I did not say that, I just put it out there as a possibility when looking at different financing models. My preference would be for the stadium to be owned by the football club.

I also said it would be a football stadium not an athletics stadium. If it could be converted temporarily for the CG for example then that would be considered but not if it compromised the stand alone requirements of being a great football stadium.

They wouldn't. This might be part of the bid and worst case scenario dependant on the bid.

At least it sounds like we aren't far from knowing for sure.

I was in the Lower Bullens yesterday, and I was looking around the concourse thinking how much I love the industrial feel of Goodison. The old steel supports down there look brilliant.

I'd love to have some of that industrial feel in our new stadium design. It'd suit the dock location, too.

But then, I also like the idea of a modern statement design. I'm not sure they're compatible, without looking like an awful post-modern pastiche.

I have no problems with that. I think all anyone is worried about is having a West Ham situation but Hampden showed it can be done and if done properly then there's no problem. If the joint use even happens.

I'd also love some brickwork and the distinctive criss cross design on the bullens road, but I suppose, due to modern building techniques that would just be window dressing and add to the building costs.
Hopefully, if it is to be on the river, all this will be taken into account, as it has to pleasing on the eye.
