New Everton Stadium

US sports specialist appointed to work on new Everton stadium

Meis Architects – an American sports specialist – has been contracted to work on the new Everton stadium

A source close to the stadium project has told the AJ that the firm – based in New York and Los Angeles – is working with the Premier League club on plans to move its home away from Goodison Park.

Earlier this month, The Business Journals reported that Xan Young, a principal at the practice, is spearheading the design.

The website said that Young is also designing a new stadium for AS Roma.

Founded in 2007, Meis Architects is currently working on a number of stadiums including, Los Angeles’ 75,000-seater NFL stadium at Grand Crossing and the Las Vegas MLS stadium.

Dan Meis, managing director at the practice, previously worked at NBBJ where he led the design for Los Angeles’ STAPLES Center, Cincinnati’s Paul Brown Stadium, Seattle’s Safeco Field, Milwaukee’s Miller Park and Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field.

Meis hinted at a close relationship with the Merseyside-based club when he posted images on Twitter while watching Everton’s 3-1 win against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Everton has struggled with previous schemes to build a new stadium.

In 2003, the club was forced to abandon a scheme for a new stadium at King’s Dock, Liverpool, because it could not find the required £30 million in funding.

Plans for another 50,000-seater stadium in Kirkby, six miles to the north-east, were rejected by the government in 2009.

While no site has been confirmed for the current plans, the AJ understands that two locations – Stonebridge Cross and Bramley Moore dock – are being mooted by the club for the scheme.

In August, Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson hinted that the site could be the Bramley Moore dock on Twitter.

The dock closed in 1988 following the decline of south Lancashire’s coal industry, and has since been used as a site for the Sound City music festival.

The development at Everton comes after rival team Liverpool FC recently unveiled its new Main Stand, designed by KSS.

Guessing this will be another one of those things were the fans don't hear anything official while other media sources will be talking about it for months.

The club probably won't even say anything when the new pitch is being put in. lol lol lol

The architects need to take a walk around Liverpool One and learn from it's mistakes= no roof and a series of wind tunnels.

Liverpool is a storm-swept city, so no open sides, and a proper roof.

I'm sort of meh on this, but as a comparison to the industrial Lucas Oil stadium there is a new completely covered NFL arena, the US Bank Stadium. It's supposed to be like a boat so would something like this fit the maritime history of Liverpool? What do you think?
