Begs the question why, when H&G were sizing up a new stadium on Stanley Park, that they didn't consider the waterfront at the time if it's advantages are as obvious as we all like to think? The Evertonian in me just can't believe that if we pull it off we may have stolen a march on them in broad daylight.
This has been my thought as well. It would be terrific if for once, timing and the element of good fortune needed were aligned in our favour rather than theirs. It would be poetic justice for many things, not least the European ban after Heysel.
A new ground on the docks just has to be the catalyst for an improvement in everything related to Everton, whilst it would be great to have a new stadium in its own right, it will ultimately mean very little if it doesn't transfer into a significant closing of the gap between ourselves and at least some of the elite clubs, however difficult that will be.
I just don't see the neighbours putting another couple of thousand seats into Anfield if we are going to the docks, what they would do and where they would go is their problem, but with football awash with money, a new stadium is not as daunting a prospect as it once seemed, especially for a club of their stature with ready access to lucrative potential naming rights amongst other advantages. I'm surprised that Anfield is not already the Dunkin' Donuts stadium. At the rate of current transfer spending, a new stadium is only the equivalent of 10 transfer windows spending for a club of their size even without sponsorship, which can be mortgaged long-term.
