New Everton Stadium

I had some reservations about that stadium but I love the fact that it's square and not a bowl. Also looks great inside as well. Especially with the blue seats in this picture:

I can see the appeal, but would have to change it behind the goal. That's a shocking gap between the upper and lower tier.

Was talking to people at the Saints game about the stadium. A few still can't stand the idea of leaving Goodison and won't go anymore. But that's by the by.

But one thing we all agreed on was that a stadium like St.Mary's would be horrible. That sort of IKEA 'build your own new stadium' kit that ta few teams seemed to get a few years ago. See Reading's Madjeski or whatever it's called these days. Basically the same stadium but with different coloured seats.

Luckily, from what little i've read about our new stadium it seems it will be quite unique. Which it really has to be.

Let's hope they do get the difference between how fans like to act in England to how they like to act in America.

Agreed. Part of me wants us to try and replicate how the Gwladys Street is now. It may make the Stadium look completely unbalanced, but it would be interesting to see if they could have a "Gwladys Street" two tiered end behind one goal which would obviously mean a limited capacity, and then have a huge end behind the other goal like at Dortmund.

As I said though that may not be feasible for lots of reasons and may look awful, but I hope they do consider certain aspects of Goodison when they plan the new one.

If Dan Meiss stays involved, and there's no guarantee even if it goes ahead, then I wouldn't worry about an IKEA style build.
If it was going to be a budget 'flat pack' shed there'd be no reason to pay a premium for a fancy architect and Meiss would think it a professional afront.
It's reassuring that a prestigious firm like his, renowned for their original designs, are strongly involved at this stage.

That's good to read. I don't know much about him but I do know I despise those stadiums I mentioned!

Make sure the entrance to the pitch is on the halfway line and not the corner like UTD, Stoke, etc.. petty I know, but I hate that..

I think the End stands should be a primary concern, then build the side stands to suit. The End Stands are the ones that generate the atmosphere for the rest of the stadium. It's the atmosphere that can influence a match and bring people back.

You can make any type of stand aestheitically nice, single tiers, multi tiers, so quality first then aesthetics to follow.

I would be very interested to see what design was scientifically the best for behind the goal, both equalling the same size and made to their best, a two tiered overlapping stand or a large single tier. Whatever ones wins have that behind both.

For the amount that they're getting paid I'd hope that they were doing that kind of research, but my view of architects are that they sit in the corporate box and marvel at their artistry and symmetry without a passing notice to whether or not the fans can make a great noise in there.

I certainly won't be taken in by the great light show it can produce or the generous leg room and comfy seats will be like. I want to know if we can swing from the rafters during a rendition of let's go effn mental!
