New Everton Stadium

The Park End build was a disgrace. It is cheap, out of context with the rest of the ground and betrays Goodison's pioneering history. Many clubs have built and moved or even rebuilt stands since 1996, the heirarchy's record on stadium mgmt is abysmal.

I get what you are saying regarding a shallow rake and I quite like it at the GS though we shouldn't be selling the seats at the back as the views are unnaceptable. I wonder if it's a case of familiarity though as I have to say I'd quite like a massive steep stand behind the goal. Below is Juve's lower rake compared to the St End and I reckon theirs looks more intimidating. I know Tom Hughes is his work on designs states that we should aim for a mixture of different types of seating, in part to recreate the feel we have at GP and I'd love us to go down that route. I can't see many new footy stadia being built with a shallow rake these days, it takes up too much space.

Lower GSE only has that rake because it is former terracing. It's utterly abysmal as a seated stand. No-one in their right mind would design a new seated stand with such a shallow rake.

I went on a tour of the stadium around 1996. I asked the young woman taking us around why they had not built something bigger on the Park End. "Because we are moving so it would not have been worth it" was her reply. No fuss or bother in her voice just the received wisdom around the club at the time. It was used as a reason/excuse to do little or nothing to Goodison for a generation. Not ITK in any way so not calling PJ out over it either but for all the talk very little action either.

Yep, a false dawn for us mate, just reminded me I actually went on a stadium tour way back in 1985,if I recall correctly it was midweek before the Telford FA Cup Tie at a very snowy Goodison, an ex player Gordon Watson who had been at the club in various capacities for years was the tour guide which made for a very interesting Tour, great time to go as well, the FA Cup and Charity Shield were in the boardroom, took loads of photos should upload I suppose to remind the younger forum members that once upon a time we were really quite good:)

Not a structural engineer but I wonder if they could have re-profiled it so it ran up to nearly the upper tier?* Could have absorbed the loss of seats by building a 2 tier Park End. All ifs and buts of course and would have required a bit of vision from the board but the last 30 years of GP decision making seems to be mistake after mistake. All short-sighted.

We're pretty much on the same wavelength on all you've wrote above including most of your other posts actually.

There is a minimum in terms of height and depth of each row. The Gwladys St rows are 5 inches in height at the bottom, 7 at the back, the depth is 660mm. New regs would not allow that for a new build, but I would like the new build, behind the goal anyway, to be as tight as you're allowed to have the fans as close together as possible.

Hopefully behind the goal we'll be standing anyway, safe standing or otherwise, so you don't need generous leg room. Something too steep means you don't stand as much.

I think steep stands give an illusion that they'd be intimidating, rather than actually being intimidating. Fans are not as tight together and they're less likely to stand. Again I'm talking behind the goals only. Do what they like in the posh seats!

Looks like it to me. Look at the rake of the upper tier, follow that angle down to Row A and it'd match up almost seamlessly.

I remember the game now, we beat Spurs 2-1, with Coleman scoring the winner I think. I jumped up when he scored and thought I was going to end up rolling down the stand and on to the pitch.

Funnily enough, the only time I've ever sat up there, on the back row of the Main Stand, was also against Spurs. Long time ago though, they had Ian Walker in Net. 1997, Gary Speed scored. Spurs had Ronny Rosenthal up front.

In 1995, first time I had sat in the TB, did Row A when we beat Newcastle 2-0, a brace for Amochaki, I was too scared to move! Sat in my seat and applauded. Most times I am ok up there, other times I get a bit panicky. When we beat Villa 3-1 in the FA Cup in 2008/09 I think I was gripping my seat when I first got up there, couldn't move. Each time since then, not so bad.

Towards the back of the upper main stand, the front of the tier lines up perfectly with the edge of the pitch, so you do forget how high you are, until you go to leave and see the stand below. Then you vomit.

Not sure it will make you feel any better, but it was a god awful game. The best bit was some fella in the main stand who every so often stood up and bellowed towards random players, of both sides, at the top of his voice. "OI 'insert players name here' YOUR S**TE" almost everyone of them heard it. I'm almost certain they did, cause I swear I could see people in the bullens laughing at him shouting it.

Hoping a few more of the club legends get statues at the new stadium.

Obviously Dixie will come with us, and the new Holy Trinity statue too.

But I'd like to see a few more - Neville Southall, Alex Young and Brian Labone for starters.

Arsenal have lots of statues of club legends around the outsides of the Emirates.

Sat/held on at the very back of the TB for the last match of the season a year or 2 back. Martinez 2nd one. Spurs.

Its a greatish view, but when Spurs scored the sound of their fans took an age to reach us! Felt a bit like being on a cloud.
