Peel paid £250M for Liverpool and Birkenhead docks , £2.5 Billion would be a very very good return on their initial investment.

Assets may be worth 6.6 billion per wikipedia but I don't think that is net of liabilities ( mortgages and stuff).
John Whittaker is worth £2.3billion according to the interweb, but that's only best guess. The ultimate controlling party of the Peel Group is the Billown Trust - this will be a family trust I would imagine.
If he is tax resident in the IOM alone, his personal tax bill (payable in the IOM) could be as little as £125,000 due to an election to use a tax cap. His wife could make the same election.
