New Everton Stadium

Mike Ashley has no business acumen. He just found his £3.7bn net worth down the back of his nan's sofa.

He won't be worth that if they clamp down on zero hour contracts. His shares in sports direct will take a tumble.

He's the closest thing to a slaver there is in the UK.

Zero hour contracts are meant for temporary contractors. He uses them for permanent staff! Modern day slavery

Taking advantage of current laws doesn't mean you don't have business acumen, though.

If it was illegal he wouldn't be doing it. Current laws support what he's doing.

But this is all irrelevant, and i'm not sure why you're bringing it up. Mike Ashley wouldn't be skint if zero hours contracts didn't exist.

The courts will decide soon enough

Supported by 38 Degrees, a former employee of Sports Direct who was forced by health issues to quit has sued for damages with respect to her working conditions.[30]

The courts have not yet ruled if the use of these contracts is legal.

A 90% workforce of zero hour staff does not appear to be as the law intended

*sigh*

Give it a rest Damon. It's currently legal until found otherwise.

Not that it's relevant. At all.

They're treating staff that are on contracts meant for temporary staff

Like permanent staff.

Without benefits of the same protections under law.

The law won't accept that situation

Sports Direct forced to advertise zero-hours contract terms
Retailer required to display limited terms under which 90% of its staff are employed, after reaching settlement with ex-worker

Sports Direct will be forced to advertise the limited employment terms under its zero-hours contracts following legal action brought by a former employee.

Under a settlement agreed before a tribunal due to be heard next month, the retailer will have to make clear in job adverts, contracts and staff rooms that it does not guarantee work, sick pay or holiday pay under the controversial terms under which nearly 90% of its staff are employed.

Zahera Gabriel-Abrahem, an ex-Sports Direct worker who was employed on a zero hours contract, claimed that part-time staff are treated less favourably than full-time employees at Sports Direct. She said: “The new job advertisements will mean that people will not find themselves in a situation where what you think are getting isn’t what you actually get.
