New Everton Stadium

People will rightly have worries with the involvement of Elstone due to his past errors, but his influence in this build can not be underestimated. He's been a big part of what will be delivered, and involved from day one.

With Elstones involvement is it safe to assume that one of our stands could end up looking like this;

Frankly I'm deeply uncomfortable with Elstone playing any part in this stadium. He's a risk averse accountant who has never understood EFC. His comments about his changing thoughts on capacity over the last 2 or 3 years betrays him there.

He doesn't get us, never has, never will. Just have to trust Meis.

Why? Before Martinez came in, the crowds were no where near sell outs apart from the odd game. Things had stagnated under Moyes towards the end and the attendances reflected that: 36,039 (2011), 33,228 (2012), 36,356 (2013). Far lower than the Capacity of Goodison. And then 2014 and 2015 the crowds increased but we still weren't selling out every game and there wasn't a waiting list. The interest from the fans now is way beyond what it was 2 or 3 seasons ago so Elstone is correct in what he says there. We wouldn't have considered a Capacity over 55,000 maximum back then, and now it appears we are looking at 60,000 or very close to that number.

As for your other comment about him not understanding EFC, I disagree there too in regard to the Stadium. He absolutely understands the fans and is at the forefront of getting a Stadium that closely matches what the fans want (whilst still being realistic).

36,039 (2011), 33,228 (2012), 36,356 (2013) is still pretty much every single non obstructed seat in the entire stadium sold. We are selling decent seats easily. As for this first point, why not flip the comment? Why not just build a 45/50k then and pass the last few years off as an exception rather than the norm? The facts are that we haven't invested anything in the stadium for 20+ years and still there is demand. We're Everton, the demand should be apparent to anybody who knows the club, the last 2 or 3 seasons are a drop in the ocean.

As for your second point he thought DK was good enough for us just a few years ago. He'll say what needs to be said at whatever time.

Because you're looking at it as a fan, whereas Elstone etc actually have to make a business decision which has huge financial implications. You are also ignoring that 2-3 years ago we did not have Moshiri at the back of us. The club is in a far better position now financially and regarding everything else because we have a Billionaire connected to the club willing to take the club forward. 2-3 years ago we only had Kenwright and we also did not have the support of the Council. Moshiri's influence rejuvenates the fanbase and makes it far easier for Elstone and those high up to aim ambitiously for a 60K capacity.

There are loads on here who think they have Elstone figured out whereas all I can see is that after being part of the Kenwright regime, he was then promoted to the EFC Board of Directors under Moshiri's watch and has been at the forefront of the Stadium plans. He's not doing too badly considering how supposedly incompetent he is at everything he is ever involved in is he?

Elstone was the front for an incompetent board who let Goodison decline and fall behind our peers. You say I'm looking at it as a fan while they are making business decisions?

As a fan I say we have roughly 35k or so unobstructed views and many of those are poor in terms of comfort and facilities and yet they sell. It doesn't take a massive leap of faith to suggest that if we speculated a little (maybe another Park End tier?) that we would sell them also? People don't want to come and sit in an obstructed view seat with poor facilities or sit on their own. The board have short-changed us in an era when nearly all other PL clubs have expanded their matchday experience.

As for "business decisions with huge financial implications" they wanted to move us to Kirkby. That was far from a sound proposition, in fact on every level it was insulting. Another business decision was to stupidly pursue WHP. Another business decision was to build Everton Place.

Moshiri should not now be held up as the factor as to why we were insipid and incompetent perviously, nor should the 'unsupporting council' card be played. Frankly it reeks of being an apologist.

So do we have less obstructed view seats now? Not as far as I know, so if we are selling out now, we could have been selling out then, couldn't we? Elstone was saying that there is now a more obvious appetite for going to the game, and it's impossible to argue with that when 6k people suddenly decide that they're not actually that bothered by the post in their way after all.

If we had more unobstructed view seats for the last 10 years would more have attended? We'll never know will we.

Standing still and going backwards should never be Everton traits. NSNO.

You don't even have to justify it mate, there has been no noticeable improvement in the achievements on the pitch yet here we are with a waiting list. It is his job as CEO to know what can be achieved attendance wise and if he had built a stadium in 2013 based on those numbers then he would have dropped the ball massively regarding our potential as a club.

I see what you're saying to an extent but I think it's easy for us to make those claims as fans with nothing riding on it, whereas Elstone has to look at what the risks and financial implications are of building a 60k stadium as opposed to a 50-55k. His case for a 60k stadium is vastly improved now than it was 2-3 years ago which is what he said with those comments.

2-3 seasons ago we finished 11th twice, had Bill Kenwright as the main man at the back of us who was around the 18th wealthiest owner in 2015 (ahead of only Norwich and Swansea) and a manager who was undoing a lot of the progress we had made under Moyes as re-establishing ourselves as a top 7 club. Contrast that to now - just finished 7th, sold out every home game last season, have European Football on offer, a world known name in Koeman as manager, an actual worthy site for the new ground and more recently, a huge name in World Football coming back to the club. Our profile is higher now, the demand is far higher, and we're a far more attractive team to come and watch.

Theresa may made it to PM, judging peoples competence by the role they hold is a big mistake, especially in britain.
