New Everton Stadium

His portfolio, one of the best, respected all over the globe for what he does

A classic......

"the panel felt there was very little doubt that Liverpool would build the stadium"

...so says the head of Commonwealth Games England. Similar noises to the Mayor and the club after Birmingham won. Promising fwiw.

Interesting article, esp this part:

Liverpool 2022 proposed installing a temporary athletics track at Everton Football Club's proposed new stadium in the Bramley-Moore Dock area of the city.

The plan originally involved installing and removing the track in less than three-and-a-half months, between the final home game of the 2021-2022 Premier League season and before the first scheduled match of the 2022-2023 campaign.

Blanchard admitted the proposal had been an area examined by the panel, but denied it had counted against Liverpool in the final reckoning.

"It was clearly an area that the panel probed significantly, as it was an obvious area of focus," he said.

"But the panel felt there was very little doubt that Liverpool would build the stadium and we had comfort the build programme to incorporate the track could be managed within the time scales.

"There was a large degree of comfort with that.

So plans must be out there somewhere regarding the stadium, what are the GOT spies up to??

Well you obviously have some issue with Meis so let's just agree to disagree
Some folks have issues with anything vaguely positive about anything to do with EFC and it's advancement
Anybody with half a brain glancing at the Meis portfolio and sees the work he's done and the respect he is held in by his peers .... knows this is a top top guy to design our stadium

Meis is not a leading world expert.

That simply isn't true. Meis is one of the leading architects in US sports stadia/arena space and has been for twenty years. The Staples Centre is widely regarded in the industry as one of the most influential sports buildings ever delivered.

His footprint outside USA is more limited with Saitama, Roma and the conceptual design for one of the Qatar venues (now taken on to be delivered by Populous from memory) the main events. In some ways that is a positive for us as Everton is a hugely important project for him and is getting his full attention.

He has worked in and with some of the biggest firms in the business and is recognised as one of the thought-leaders in trying to make stadia more affordable and effective as every day venues. He's strong in conceptual design and use of space but his firm often has to work with other bigger players to turn concepts into reality.

It is true he has drifted away from working within the mega-firms in the last few years and has not worked at Populous, who are probably the leading firm in the space, but he has partnered regularly with others for delivery.

None of that diminishes his talent but it does mean he can only handle one or two projects at a time unlike Populous so they'll always have more builds, projects. A Meis design is heavily reliant on him. The choice of lead contractor will be important. A Populous design is more of a team effort with more done in-house...but a camel is a horse designed by committee!

Obviously there are pros/cons to Meis but the attempt to cast him as some also ran by the moaners is silly.

Doubt that those plans will ever come to the public domain, just the non track one.

Exactly. And surely the chance to build an iconic structure on such a prominent WHS is a dream come true for an architect.

I imagine someone has probably stumbled upon this beforehand and posted it already, but if not then rejoice for I have done just that.

Close to the pitch and intimidating....

P.S. Someone recently tweeted to me that modern English stadiums are no longer intimate or intimidating...that they can't be because of modern regulations etc...to that person I say..."just wait, and see"...

Can I just point out something here mentioned tehre. He was introduced to Everton prior to Moshiri being here.

Is that why Elstone is still here and leading the Stadium delivery? Its actually his baby. Moshiri is just helping to give the weight behind the finance of it.

Walton Hall Park project was announced in April 2014. He'd have been on-board for that initially
