New Everton Stadium

Joe is struggling to get Council buy in. Members are taking a lot of heat from residents, especially those in lower income areas. He’s going with the “if it doesn’t benefit the city then we won’t go with it”

It’s on a knife edge at the minute

Im sure Mosh has a few tricks up his sleeve, this is his bread and butter, getting other people to pay for stuff "investing"

He'll just need to hold his nerve. Let's be honest, nearly all of the criticism of the proposed financing is either down to people misunderstanding what has been proposed or because they are RS. For all the noise at the moment, it will all blow over.

But that wasn't the first option. The first option was to have the council set up a SPV to encourage private investors. Plan A was to effectively say to nervous potential investors "look, this is a belt and braces job here, you simply cant lose because the council stands behind this". To move onto Plan B underscores that those overtures to private investors were rebuffed....it's not an option for us anymore.

Who knows how these things play out? Maybe all parties have known since the first what the proposal would be. Perhaps they just put up the pretence of a SPV for purposes of news management.

Farhad: Have we got the final numbers in from the preferred contractor Robert? We can finally deliver everything once we have that and even those miseries on GOT will be happy.

Suntan Bob: Just a moment boss, I'm having trouble getting through to Carillion at the moment.

Moshiri : Just ensure that the £150m we gave them as a downpayment is secure

Not sure you can simultaneously claim people are wrong to distrust the council AND speculate that the council are being deliberately deceitful to get things passed. lol

I've no idea what the situation is other than it seems they've changed from being a guarantor to a potential lender. That seems like a substantial enough change to make things less certain than they might've been and to make people more wary about what's going on. Sure, it should be win-win, but so was the situation where LCC were the guarantor, so why the change? It's all looks odd....to say the least.

The change is because the LCC can earn more money without increased risk.

It looks weak though doesn't it if you stagger from one plan to another like that, especially as there's a statement attached to the change regarding finding investment "challenging".

If it's a tactic it's a poor one because it makes the scheme sound like it's desperately pan handling the council.

out total repayments per annum, if this is to go through as suggested will be closer to £50m a year.

there is noway we can remain competitive and make these payments for 25 years.

absolutely no way on earth.
How do you arrive at that figure, and how does that mean we won’t be able to compete?

I take issue with the word sound in your last paragraph. It's exactly what it is. You don't make your billions if you're too shy to panhandle for 1/2 a percent here or there.

No it wont, that figure is not correct. At that point we would just pay it off in cash. That would require an interest rate of 11% to hit that figure, and nobody is paying anywhere close to that.
