New Everton Stadium

Club architect Dan Meis.

@davek

Im off for a Greek the lads, back later.
He's second class. He's not in the Herzog or HOK league. I'm not saying he's Barr Construction bad or anything like that, but he's not going to give us a stunning statement to the world. He has his remit: square stadium with corners filled in. I expect he'll use glass and lighting as a feature of the exterior, but then again which new stadiums dont now?

In my survey I actually said that I'm highly sceptical that this would happen and if it did then I don't have faith for it to be any good.

Looks like we're right on track then.

60% preferred a ‘square shaped’ design
the creation of an ‘Iconic Landmark for Liverpool’ ranked only in fourth place
99% of respondents wanted the new stadium’s capacity to be 50,000 or more

.......you know what's coming dont you?

Er.....no

Different architecture firm altogether

I knew our arl arse fanbase would go with the outdated square stadium.

Why do we have to be so small time? I would rather we ignored fans and built an ace stadium than listen to a fanbase who lets face it has had their ambition beaten out of them under the Kenwright regime and want any old rope.

One things for certain you can forget a 60k stadium after reading that statement. Will be 55k at most.

...yes, but he's got a job to do within a budget.

It'll test his ingenuity. However, I really think the location is the visual statement and the club are going to use that to put into context any failure for a BMD stadium to match up to Spurs, Chelsea in terms of elegance or jaw dropping.

Steep stands, four stands with corners filled in and 55k capacity would be fine given that it's built on the dock.

Let's be honest. If someone had of offered that 5 years we would all be happy.

I'm not sure we could fill 60k either and the corporate boxes is where the money is at anyway.

Juve's stadium is only 41k.

I think they just want to be close to the pitch. It has nothing to do with a lack of ambition. The Bernabéu is a four stands stadium too.

I would suggest that the club prior to the consultation assiduously nudged the thinking of fans via the local press and social media into these declarations. Tell everyone we could get a bowl = outrage...which means everyone scuttles back to a bog standard square; create a stir around traditions and Goodison - everyone states they want an intimate environment...so the club underlines small capacity.

People have been mugged off here with this consultation...and these upcoming workshops will be used to hammer the club's priorities home.

Imagine Bilbao's or the Allianz lit up blue over the docks mate - water stadiums always look fantastic when its oval shaped - you can still have a 4 sided steep interior but Meis will just knock up a stadium design that's simply outdated now in fear of fan backlash.

Basically a square ground thats 50/52k and has the dixie dean statue outside and the fans are happy. Typical really when the majority of the match going fans let Kenwright get away with murder for near 2 decades.
