New Everton Stadium

55,000 (with ability to add on) and iconic would be a good compromise. Unfortunately we wont get that. It'll likely be more a generic stadium that relies on location to make its impact.

Tbh, I'm in two minds on this: it's certainly a betrayal of the original ambitions of the club to move away from Goodison, because it all suggests a Goodison MkII by the river; however, I have major concerns around the cost of this project and its implications for the club in terms of carrying debt.

I think the actual compromise here will be that we'll have the waterfront site and a level of debt that can be serviced and paid off far more quickly but at the expense of making giant strides toward those clubs we hope will be (again) our peers.

Today is the moment the club marks our cards on this stadium build and politely and quietly tells us they are getting real and we should too....and they'll have plenty of help on forums from their little helpers to push that p.o.v. too.

Ah, as per, the easily swayed are now arguing the case for a 50k. It’s all going to plan.

Yup, IF we where gonna get a 70k stadium with half those tickets priced at 10 quid for anyone under 25, i'd be bouncing for that to go ahead, but we won't and if anything the prices would rise because it's new and shiny etc

Stick the two most successful clubs in the country within 25 miles of Dortmund, add in a German version of Man City and then charge 40-50 quid a ticket per game and wonder how many fans Dortmund would be getting in there 80k stadium, my guess is a lot lot less..

And FA Cup winners Wigan. Must have a effect that,

But joking aside, totally agree. Uncomparable in a sane world.

So you finally think it’s happening?

I never said it wouldn't. I said the funding looked implausible.....but now it looks like a desire to get round that is in play: by drastically cutting capacity (and I'd imagine the design wont be as iconic as most hoped...as the club helpfully suggested by underling that it was only 4th in importance for respondents).

If I think the stadium is closer to reality today rather than yesterday it is ENTIRELY down to the way the club are now pushing on the specifications.

I dunno, Meis goes on a bit but from what I can tell, he doesnt really do boring/generic.
I'm pretty sure the owners will want 'iconic' or at least 'exciting and different' , as it will help sell seats. The location will only go so far if the stadium is bland inside. They know that.

I dont see from the data they released so far how Meis can do iconic from this. Tbf to him they sound like they'd be asking him to plait sawdust to get iconic out of "square and traditional".

So it’s gone from it won’t get done
to
it’ll get done but it’ll be Small and crap

Let’s just pack up and go home then eh

Not at all. But the new ground, be it 40 50 or 60 thousand wont make a fig of a difference in the short term. Petro cash getting lobbed into City wont go away in the short term either.

Why I was saying we build this ground for Everton. Not some daft "we have more seats than you" contest.

A few more bob from match days will help, maybe a mate of Moshiris will turn up. Who knows.

No. my take is this:

It'll get done if they can secure the finances...which will be easier to get hold of if they downsize on quality and quantity...and that the location itself can and should be able to make even a bog standard stadium look attractive.

Just forget about awe inspiring designs and capacity that pulls us up to the level of our competition.
