New Everton Stadium

Chelsea have become one of the most successful teams in Europe on a redeveloped 41k seater stadium. Now they're upgrading to a bigger stadium, but they've earned that right. Same with City, they didn't just dive into a 60k seater stadium in 2003 in anticipation of them being one of the best teams in Europe in a decade's time.

And you think we compete with a stadium?

Surely that means Arsenal are the 2nd best team in the league behind United?

Apologies. I went off topic and was talking about competing on all fronts, financially, commercially and on the pitch. I wasn't very clear what I meant. My bad

Should probably stick to lurking. I'm ace at that

I dont think anyone's likening this to a nob measuring contest; the capacity question is entirely legitimate on the grounds that any attempt to hold this stadium size down (certainly below 55,000) is a message hammered out that the club aren't geared up for any maximization of playing success and that we'll hit a natural ceiling and fall back again.

It would be a calamity if the club agree to bend to the will of other parties dependent on us for this project. And that's what I firmly believe is happening here.

Yeah and Everton are building a 65k seater stadium on the docks.

Which is another rumour.

I posted their current capacities.

What's your point? Are we not talking about where we're going? That's where they are going.
"Current capacities" is a bit of a misnomer as teams are striving to build bigger and Arsenal & United are at a level already we will leave Goodison for a bigger ground (hopefully) isn't part of the debate what capacity it should be?

This potential 'downscaling' of the stadium capacity has nothing to do with the owners believing in 'Little old Everton'

It is purely for financial reasons - We don't have the money to build anything bigger - and are struggling to get the funding together to build ANY type of new stadium - Never mind a bloody massive one

We do though.

Think it through.

As ever, I might be miles off, but this is a lot closer, and a lot more tidied up, than we know about. I reckon.

Everything is up in the air Roydo - Feel like this whole thing is on a knife edge right now

Hopefully things will be a lot clearly over the next couple of weeks

It may feel that way, but to me, its progressing pretty much along the lines, ( if you join the dots), as could be expected.

Why don't we build the stadium in the dock entirely and roof it at ground level? We could set the capacity at 1,878 and sell the seats at £10 million quid up front ,which secures your seat for 10 years.
Up market punters and corporates could be ferried from town in flash coaches and escorted in through secret doors ,like a speakeasy , to this subterranean pleasure dome.
Once there they would sit behind terraced tables and be served the finest food and wine while watching the mighty blues.
For the great unwashed Everton could offer a secure stream to watch at home for say 300 rips or for £150 you could watch it with fellow supporters in larger venues and hostelrys around the city and your groans, boos, banter and cheers could be piped directly into the stadium to create the 'atmosphere '.
If it doesn't work what better end for a dying club in a dying city than to finish up already entombed on the banks of the royal blue Mersey?
