New Everton Stadium

I'm more worried about Joe Anderson then the capacity, he seems to be more unpopular then I realized. I don't worry about him shaffing us but I do worry about a campaign to stop the council's roll in the funding

..I understand it’s Labour’s Momentum wing who are dead set against supporting the move. Apparently they are pressurising councillors and local MPs.

This could be why progress is stalling. The Walton labour MP was asked about Momentum’s opposition to the stadium on BBC politics show and he said elected officials must listen to what Labour Party members want.

We should aim for the sky not something that’s going to limit us.

Spent the last 25 years agreeing to things that limit us as a club. Please see the Kitbag deal.
You aim for what is achievable and affordable. I'm going to trust the bean counters on this one who will have the knowledge and experience to have done a thorough business case and cost/benefit analysis. If it didn't make sense commercially, it wouldn't be happening.

Ever since the new stadium was mentioned we’ve broke ST sales despite what’s gone on pitch wise.
This is purely down to fans wanting to secure guaranteed seats at Bramley Moore. We just need to make sure we can capitalise on location, corporate business and tourists to fill some of the remaining seats. I worry 5 years in to a new ground if we’re struggling then numbers may dwindle but that’s down to our management and ownership to worry about.

In this day and age now though I can’t see how we can build a state of the art ground with less than 55k.

People aren't buying season tickets in order to guarantee themselves a seat at a non-existent stadium that won't be built for another five years at the earliest, and won't even have a waiting list in the event that it is built.

Season tickets have become more popular than previously due to the Moshiri hype, and the popularity of going to the Premier League matches in general.

So explain the Kitbag deal then captain?

Take it the bean counters worked that one out as well.... Hahahaha

Season ticket sales for next season outsold previous year whilst Allardyce was still there mate. OK, I know the majority were hoping he'd be replaced but people still renewed amongst all that uncertainty. We would sell 40k ST for new stadium, I've no doubt. None whatsoever. Another 5k hospitality. 3k away fans. That's 8k to make up each game.

Don't underestimate the attraction of a new stadium.
I’d get an extra 2 season tickets straight away for my kids, plus my 3 brothers who usually find tickets for about 5/6 home games a year have said they would definitely buy season tickets in a new stadium, so I agree with you wholeheartedly on that point

Stadia aren't paid off after one season though. What happens if there's an economic downturn in 5 years and people stop going? These all get considered when making decisions.

People seem to think bill and moshiri sat together and said let's make the stadium smaller than the fans want, just for a laugh.

Why would they be against it Eggs?. I'm not suggesting I expected them to be 100% on board but why would they be so set against it?.

My understanding on Momentum is that they are all for the working class. So an arrangement whereby the council use their influence to attract a cheaper rate of interest for the club, whilst earning good income for the council, thus enabling the club to charge lower prices for their season tickets, (which would invariably be purchased by working class people) would be something that they should approve.

Well don’t I look silly

But the point still stands really. Point is, it’s really not that big a deal if there’s a couple thousand extra seats, just so we can go “ha we’ve got a bigger stadium than you”. I don’t buy the envy angle.

Obviously we shouldn’t be too short sighted, so hopefully the site will give room for expansion, but at this moment in time 55k is more than enough.

All the top 6 either have or have plans for a 60,000 plus stadium. We want to be competing in that group so naturally are building a smaller stadium? If size didn’t matter, why do the 6 most successful clubs currently all want a stadium above a certain size?

..others will be better qualified than me, Fred, but it might be something to do with the council generating funds to be used in the private sector and the risks associated with such deals.

IF’S and buts! The whole country would suffer IF that happened. I don’t enjoy taking the kids sometimes in our creeking, uncomfortable terrible views stadium. I want state of the art, great views, great concourse and I guarantee a lot more of my money will be diverted into Everton FC

What would have to happen for a 55k stadium to "limit" Everton?

The tv money bubble to burst and matchday income to once again be a differentiator in terms of revenue which will be great for Everton when they find it has a stadium 5-10k smaller than the teams it’s trying to compete against.

Furthermore, it's already been noted that due to the restrictions of the BM site the cost of adding additional seating over the 50-55k mark would multiply costs.

We'd all like a larger stadium but I find that people fail to consider the impact it will have on ticket prices: it's easy to say there'll be x-number of season tickets.

Yet, if costs are driven up because of the additional seating, will people be willing to pay the increase through their own ticket? I doubt it - it must be affordable.
