New Everton Stadium

Exactly. Football is all about who has the bigger ground or who has the better team etc, or else what’s the point?

I thought the point of football was to win games.
Would you rather have 60k stadium and win nothing, or a 55k Stadium and win a couple of cups? Bit of a no brainer really.

A bigger capacity has absolutely no baring on our performance on the pitch. Those extra 5k seats will give us no more income, as the income would be offset by interest on the extra build cost. Better to put the extra £50m+ that would be needed into the squad, to increase our chances of winning things.

At the end of the day, stadium revenue is peanuts to top clubs. Most revenue comes from sponsorship, TV money (CL and Eu L etc), and worldwide marketing. These things only come from success on the pitch first.

The top clubs aren't successful because they have big stadiums, they have big stadiums because they are successful.

For the money they are now talking about (£500m) couldnt we;

Buy up a load of houses round goodison

Knock them down and knock down goodison

Build a huge stadium with hotels, conference facilities, retractable pitch and retractable roof?

Probably because hotels and conference centres which are built in struggling working class areas tend to not be as attractive as they would like. Especially when the main competition would come from a world famous football club across the way.

Because it would still cost £500 million + the loss of revenue while we have a reduced capacity if we are doing it a stand at a time and we won't be beside the Mersey in a prime location.

They probably want the Goodison land for development and so will stick the stadium out in the middle of nowhere and make a fortune by building it for a ridiculous book sum.
