New Everton Stadium

Interesting to read Barrett Baxendale interview with Business Post where sge states BMD will be a '"City Regional Development project not just a football caoex project".
Sime funding from somewhere?

I reads to me more like positioning for the planning application and is likely to be the big message in the public consultations. Even the name 'people project' is removing the football alignment from the headline, trying to get all people of Blue or red persuasion, or those that don't even like football. The approach is clear to me that the main point being publicised is how good it is for the city. I think that's as far as it goes, nothing to do with funding.

I think everyone knows what's likely to happen.
The people that think the stadium is going ahead are the same people who were expecting usmanov to be here by now.

The club have slow balled it enough to keep people interested until the agm casts doubts over the deal in January and Brexit is the final nail down in the coffin
You could not be more WRONG.Patience will be rewarded

does anyone else feel the RS are more obsessed about this stadium than ours? Everytime i try and read an update on the echo the comments section is littered with bitter reds drowning out blue comments.

We have them worried mate, very worried. This is the game changer that will elevate the club to a higher level and don’t they know it.

For the fans a new stadium is very exciting but what does a football club get out of it except debt? Match day income is 3rd in the pecking order behind corporate income and broadcasting.

You can make a new ground, or a new stadium pay if you can charge £1,000 plus season tickets, like Spurs, or like City charge £20,000 p.a.for corporate hospitality. People might pay that to watch the world class football but they wont for just good football. It has to be special.

Goodison has reached the point where it has to be replaced, but I doubt it's going to provide the same kind of lift off as it will for Spurs or City because Everton simply will not be able to leverage the revenues to cover the expenses. However infrastructure spend is the one area where you are allowed to spend what you like under FFP so if Everton owners are prepared to carry the financial cost then it's a win win for Everton fans at the expense of the owner. Few would do it. Billionaires are not usually philanthropic.

I'm not really a hater of the design but I wonder why with a blank canvas that is the best they can come up with.

I am a hater when it comes to the 'Everton' name being sprawled across the end of the stand though. In world football how many stadiums can you think that have the club name in letters that big? It is tacky. This usually means the design is lacking so something is required to fill/hide/distract.

I would much prefer if it had two club badges on the edges. However you would then probably see clearly behind that apart from the top it just gives a view of the back of the stand. The real issue here is why the ends are orientated that way, the lower 2 tier stand should back up to the nelson dock allowing people inside to see out to the city and from outside to be able to see the inner 'bowl' like most American venues that have a window.
It’s all about preference though. If your preference was presented, others would say “is that the best they can come up with”. Doesn’t mean your idea is wrong, but it 100% down to personal preference

I sort of disagree. Yeah everyone has their opinion. But the Buro Happold stadium pic which seems to be genuine, IMO looks very tacky and not really "Iconic" and all that. Hardly any better from the WHP image. It could be Sunderland's Stadium of Light. Nothing amazing.

Don't dwell on it though. As someone pointed out this is from over a year ago and plans are almost certainly have changed. As the person you quoted from said "with a blank canvas that is the best they can come up with".

Think about it. Externally it's going to be brick of some sort to blend in with the docks. An Everton version of the Lucas Oil Stadium I reckon. It won't be like that Buro Happold design. I think it's probably the very first design they come up with!

tbf, It was the officially stated policy of the day...and if push comes to shove it maybe trotted out if it all turns to custard
It was OSP at the time, but huge chunks have fallen by the wayside and without being overly or unduly unkind to RE, I reckon all of his blueprint has been scrapped
