New Everton Stadium

Going to be over 25 years or less mate if all the chatter is correct. Which would be understandable as no commercial backer is going to let us pay back half a billion over 50 years.

That was in and around the deal with the council that we seem to have binned, likely because we got better terms, think we’re both speculating though now mate.

Don’t you think starting bigger would of been better? And it will cost more I imagine later on! Sod this Everton and aim bigger!

I really don’t to be honest.

I hate looking at City’s ground being half empty. And can’t see us filling, say, a 60k stadium when we play bloody Norwich at home.

Empty seats cost money. Let’s see if we can consistently fill 52k and go from there. It seems a very sensible approach to me.

I think what we're seeing here (if it isn't more smoke and mirrors) is a decision based on planning guidelines and possibly funding issues.

Our hope has to be now that any cost reduction from having to go 10K lower is reflected in quality of facility.

And in reducing the effect of the building cost on player recruitment in the short-term.

That's all it will ever be.

Meis said ages ago that whatever the final design capacity is, that is all it ever will be due to the site of the build..

I'm sure he will cover this up by saying the capacity increase will come with converting to safe standing.. Which I don't think is possible either.

You don’t know that.

If there’s demand for it it will happen. They’ve literally just said it would.

I don’t agree mate, And I think most fans will want it bigger, hopefully the club have more dialogue with the fans prior to the diggers!

Meis has been quoted saying it is impossible to increase the capacity once its built.

Let's just wait and see when designs come out showing how we would increase by a mere 10000 seats.

This will be interesting. Imagine how tight the site will be to the mersey once built. There is no room for more construction.. I'm sure it will have to be built in a certain manner as it is..

That's probably BS in all fairness. Maybe the addition of a couple thousand more in the event the club are successful on the pitch and need of necessity to exploit that and meet demand.

I actually think we are marks here by the club. The final capacity will be 55k IMO and the club are already planing it.

Here’s the hustle,

Announce a 52k stadium.

Have divided opinions,

Have a fan consultation,

Overwhelming feedback for 60k.

Club make big show about listening to fans and taking on board their opinions,

Announce a 55k after listening to fans.

Everyone is happy.

Can you show me this quote?

Maybe we told Meis that after all consultations with fans and all the studies that have been paid for that we feel we need a stadium that will be flexible to accommodate a capacity increase. It is quite feasible as Everton are in charge and Meis has to build to our desires. Just saying like.

It’s all opinions at the end of the day. Nothing wrong with differing.

Do you honestly think we’d regularly fill a 60k stadium? That’s what I’m struggling with.

Maybe the Derby and possibly the Man Utd and City games. Doesn't justify a 60k for a few matches. Common sense prevails. Good decision by the club in my opinion. Also looking at the true attendances at City and West Ham compared to the announced attendance on ticket sales alone would be horrible to have a quarter of the stadium empty most weeks.

That's down to funding....or lack of.

This could mean one of two things:

1/ the club are actually in a position to get that past planning and able to secure funding for a stadium of that size (in other words, it's very hopeful things will be green for go)

2/ it's an announcement meant to deflate the fanbase and gently row back from a commitment to this scheme, allowing them to cite fans being underwhewlmed by what's possible at BMD.
1. was my first thought: the club making a necessary statement of reality re: the difficulties of maximizing size in such a location.

I am hoping, possibly naively, that 2. would be too outrageous a stunt for the club to pull on their own fans. If they couldn't go ahead with BMD I'd hope that the club would just announce it and rule it out in a straightforward manner. But as I say hoping!
