New Everton Stadium

Keith Harris said at last nights AGM

"We expect there will be an instruction for safe standing. It could increase capacity by 10,000."

So by my maths the capacity will probably be 62000

Or am I missing something ?
Him keeping his fingers crossed behind his back and winking surreptitiously at the rest of the board whilst he said it?

Once they appoint a contractor I think things will start falling into place. Hopefully that’s soon as I know for a fact they are currently discussing the stadium with a number of large contractors.

they want the construction to be done in 2 years, seems a pipe dream that, I mean it's not even like the site is ready to be built on, im assuming draining and filling the dock will be a tw#t of a job

think it will happen like but at least be realistic

Despite the sour outcome for us the last time we hired a Dutchman those Netherlands engineers sure know how to drain and reclaim land.

One factor people cite when championing a higher capacity is the increase in clubs average attendance after the new stadium has been built.

However this isn't the cash boon that's implied. West Ham are selling full price season tickets for £300 with massive reductions for over 65 and under 16 which are about £100 each. Sunderland similar prices.City have a few thousand empty seats every game. Leic3ster and Southampton just had tiny outdated stadia. Even most of United's games go on general sale. Well you get the gist.

There's a case for the higher capacity and the necessary price reduction purely as it means working class lads can start going again. But as a cash raising measure the 60k stadium will not be a goose that's going to lay any golden eggs.

Certainly the West Ham case is a useful case study but it is also pretty much a unique situation. You have to remember their record attendance prior to Stratford was just 42,322.

That's an increase over their record attendance by almost 50% they can get away with only because of its location.

Actually they're draining it as we speak. Kenwright is using a colander to remove as much water as he can each day. He reckons we'll be ready to fill in the dock any day now.

I only came back to this thread just now cos I saw that yours was the last post- no pun etc' - and you haven't disappointed me. Roughly what
I expected.

Filling the dock shouldn't be difficult. We keep being told that land fill is a premium, and we shouldn't throw stuff away. All around there's loads of crap that councils get charged a fortune for to dispose of.

This is Everton though, so I fully expect the little Hitlers of the Environmemt Agency to force us into filling it with pure, inert quarried stone from select very expensive sources (probably from land owned by one of the descendants of William the Conquorer's army). It'll cost more than the stadium ffs.

I kind of think any extra capacity gained from safe standing doesn't really count in a way as all clubs are going to benefit from this so it doesn't really give us a competitive edge.
