This word 'purdah' really annoys me.

I mentioned the olympic bid in this thread (iirc) many months ago, so it isn't just politicking, they were planning a bid some time ago.

Trouble is that at the COMS they left the entire North Stand down to allow sufficient access for the ground works needed to drop the level and gain an extra tier where the track was. It also allowed for the shape of the stadium to be slightly offset for the radius of a track. The whole of the North stand was scaffolding for the entirety of the games. We couldn't do that for a few years, have the games then build a stand afterwards... If we get a stadium with a running track, we will continue to have a stadium with a running track.

That's not how these things work. The corporate side is how they develop, which is the way Anderson butters his bread these days.

Architect described as the “go-to-guy” by the London Olympic organizing committee at Goodison Park.

Sports and Event based architect Derek Wilson was today at Goodison Park. The appearance of the world renowned stadium architect at the famous old ground will add more fuel to the stadium rumours circulating around Merseyside.

And the attendance at Goodison of Derek Wilson, who has previously worked on major games including Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Torino 2006, Delhi 2010 and Glasgow 2014 coincided with the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, announcing his aim to bring the 2026 Commonwealth Games to the city of Liverpool.

However, another 12 year wait for a solution to Everton’s stadium issue would be a bitter pill to swallow for a fanbase long plagued by stadium fatigue.

And with the recent arrival of billionaire Farhad Moshiri as the major shareholder at the club, Everton supporters will be hopeful the Toffees long wait for a fit for purpose stadium will finally not be dependent on hand outs from a third party, nor a financially squeezed local authority.

The architect and designer Wilson spent 12 years as a partner at HOK Sports (now Populous) and has been involved in high profile sporting events including World Cups and Olympic Games.

He has also worked on diverse stadium projects closer to home including the Emirates Stadium, Croke Park, Dublin, the redevelopment of Turf Moor for Burnley FC, the John Smiths Stadium for Huddersfield Town FC and the Macron Stadium for Bolton Wanderers.

Wilson is also a partner in Wilson, Owens, Owens (WOO), a practice recognised around the world as a leading sport and event architect.

WOO came to the attention of Evertonians in early March when an image of a new Everton stadium at Walton Hall Park appeared and was shared across social media. Before the webpage including the image was quickly removed from the WOO website.

A source at Goodison Park told Everton Viral this was not Derek Wilson’s first visit to Goodison Park, and the architect had been advising the club on possible stadium solutions for a period of time.

The same source also revealed construction company Carillion, the firm behind the expansion of the Main Stand at Anfield, had been in discussions at Goodison Park around the turn of the year.

Everton FC’s search for a solution to an ageing stadium, a saga stretching beyond two decades, has been well documented and includes two failed attempts to relocate from its traditional Walton home.

With the arrival of Farhad Moshiri and the partnership between the club and Derek Wilson, perhaps there is finally light at the end of the tunnel. And the long wait for a new home, or the redevelopment of Goodison Park for Everton FC may finally become a reality.

The talk of a commonwealth bid really worries me. The council could use it as an excuse not to allow us to build a new football stadium, because as part of the "sustainability plan" the council will need to build an Olympic style stadium and need a plan for what happens to that stadium, once the games are over.

If it happens, the best option would be to build it like Man City's stadium and what West ham have done with the Olympic stadium, so that the running track can be filled in, after the games. But I really don't want to wait 11 years to play in a new stadium
