New Everton Stadium

Not just that but would have been a gamechanger for the club. This was before Abramavich and Mansour and there wasn't that much money in the league (hence 20 mill being a lot then) so the gap to us and Liverpool wasn't that big 20 years ago and they were stuck with Anfield. The Kings Dock would have really propelled the club into the prime location of the city and made us ripe for investment.

STOP IT…

I have pretended that it was never an option for the sake of my blood pressure :)

Comes down to modern building costs as well. Sunderland built Stadium of Light for about 20 million 25 years ago and it was still bigger than Anfield until the new stand went up and just that stand cost them north of 100 mill.

We missed the boat with the Kings Dock.

The truth is you miss the boat at any time you don't do something at that point you could have. Obviously KD would be better as we were only part financing it, but you look at Arsenal who paid what was a lot at the time for the Emirates, looking at it now 360 million is a great deal - especially in London. If we didn't have BMD perhaps in the coming years 1 billion will be the going rate for a basic 55k stadium and we'd be saying we missed out on what was only 500 million at the time.

BMD has to happen but we've lost 20 years by missing out on KD and other clubs sailed ahead of us. And we'll be paying for BMD for years to come.

Not only did Bill mess KD up but then tried to move us to Kirkby which he also messed up.

This feels *over* to me.

I think the next announcement on this is likely to be a delay in the next phase of development, then a change to the hoped for inauguration season, and they'll be the first moves in mothballing it. I know it's nowhere near a precise comparison - but the feeling I have is the one I got when we first heard of problems over the viability for us over the Kings Dock stadium. We're in the foothills of that now IMO.

It's a huge disappointment to fans and will destroy the club's morale (and reputation) for years and years to come.

You couldn't make up a worse case scenario than this if you were a Kopite. It's organisational death we're seeing here.

Kenwright brought these people in 6 years ago and they've been an utter disaster for us. I sincerely hope that when (when not 'if') Moshiri leaves the club in the next 12 months or so that Kenwright is forced out by a huge campaign. Since 1999 he's blighted this football club and should go down in history as one of its infamous characters whose actions have been every bit as destructive for the club as the split in 1892 and the European ban in 1985.
You can’t start to imagine how relieved I am to read this. As you’ve been so totally wrong about this stadium on every level since it’s conception, I can rest assured that the build will carry on as planned.

100% agree with you on Kenwright mind.

The stadium, wont be finished until 2024, 2 years is a long time and as far as Usminov is concerned we are talking about naming rights deal for a stadium that hasnt been finished yet and wont be for a couple of years. His assets haven't dissapeared they've been frozen and just the foreign ones, while other sources are in investments, no more then us.

Everything in context here, we arent relying on him for construction or completion - even the mail article highlights the private financial model in place.

More concerned about the impact of a possible relegation myself, that cuts us at the knees financially almost immediately.

KD would have cost us 20m wouldn’t it from memory… makes me want to cry
thats just the natural effect of inflation, lets say BMD will cost £500m, over 30 years, thats £16m pa, roughly 2-3 player wages per week's worth of payments, we have a 1st team squad of what 26 players (ive ignored interest, FH's £100m and the lower cost wages to keep it simple, but also ignored signing fees).

Now imagine the cost of a 1st team player in 30 years time, it will way outstrip these repayments. The premier league average wage was about £11k per week in 2002, the first few years will be tighter but this investment in the stadium will continue and it wont be as bad as the doom mongers will say. Don't forget the extra bonus of developing the area will bring whoever invests.

And I will buy an extra couple of pints in the ground every match, well every little helps.

Interesting piece about how Usmanov’s departure affects the stadium.

‘Usmanov was helping the club to press ahead. His absence impacts on the Everton's ability to service the debts from the stadium construction.'

If we are forced to stay at Goodison we will be in big trouble in the long-term. It has fewer corporate facilities than Brentford and a quarter of the seats at Goodison have an obstructed view. As Premier League ticket prices inevitably go up will fans be willing to pay big money to sit behind a post? Also several people in recent years have raised questions about Goodison’s ability to continue to gain its safety certificate each year. It’s getting more and more dilapidated.
No substance to this whatsoever , Bascombe ( much better source in the Telegraph saying its still on course.

File under Daily Fail.

Uncle Uzi isn't the only billionaire that's wanted in on football lads. They were mates via Arsenal and continued it.

Our owner is in the billionaire club with, you guessed it, other billionaires.

The idea that we've folded commercially as a club that's what, the 17th highest revenue steam in world football, is madness.

To me it's seems like Mosh has another reset on the commercial end just has he has on the football end.
