New Everton Stadium

Still think the North Stand is terrible. Reminds me of that stupid stand at the Aviva in Dublin
Its nothing like the Aviva. It's only a little bit smaller than the other three stands. Its a steep two-tiered stand that is more imposing than the current Gladys Street stand. The architect made it into a feature with a large glazed section above.

I don't see many people complaining about the 'small' sections behind the goal at Lucas Oil stadium or BoI Stadium in Minnesota.

Don’t think so, I think the north stand was always the same height (due to the treatment plant behind), but the 3 other sides were going to be bigger.
Same height, yes. But the seating was going to be right to the top of the stand and not leaving that huge glass dropaway that distinguishes it from the other three stands.

I've searched as best I can for the answer to that north stand design to no avail.

Does anyone else think that it's odd / remiss / unacceptable that there's no explanation for the shape to that stand?

...none that I can see anyway. ?‍♂️

No. Ultimately, the club doesn't have to explain the fine particulars of the design or receive a mandate for them. They had a consultation and the fans said.... yes.

Why is there? I would surmise it's to do with a combination of natural light, maintaining the roofline and the stadium's proximity to the external wall of the plant.

I disagree.

The club has to take the fans with them every step of the way. Yes, they get the stadium they wish for based on the direction of the design team. However, that should be conveyed and explained to the fans. It's not an arcane point about undersoil heating, it's a feature of the matchday experience. An aesthetic matter that needs elaboration.

On your substantive point re light. Ok, that would be understandable. But at least we should hear it from the architect or Chong.

I found this:

Orientation

'The stadium would be built on a north-south orientation. This is the best approach in terms of the impact of sunshine and shadow on the fans’ experience and on the televising of matches.'

Just a guess, but maybe light considerations also have something to do with the light required for preserving the quality of the playing surface. Stadiums like the Millenium / Principality stadium in Cardiff need constant use of those light machines to take care of the lack of natural light.

It would be nice to hear the offical explanation though.

Also, also...the shifting of the solar panels into the roof - might that have had a knock on effect in terms of gaining light elsewhere in the north stand?

(And yes, the space between the north stand and the water treatment works might also impact). But it could do with explaining.

This is an old point, which must have been covered at the start but i cant find it now
- is our hospitality offer going to be a LOT better than we have currently, and finally, very competitive? I hope so, because this stadium will attract a lot of 'premier league tourism' and corporate hospitality for anyone who just wants to watch any premier league football in the city. A day / night out in the city is much better with our stadium in the future.

Short answer, I think, is that it'll be a lot better than Goodison but not as 'competitive' of other recent sized PL stadium builds. ?‍♂️

There has always been an explanation for the design.

Once we decided the orientation was to be north>south the basic facts are that the site isn't massive, the back row of the north stand to the back row of the south stand in distance isn't too different to the Park End to Gwladys back rows.

So knowing that, if you want a bigger home end like the majority did, then something had to give and the design reflects that there's literally no more footprint to build on. It didn't have to be that way, we could have had two medium sized end stands if people were more bothered about aesthetics.

Personally I think it gives a pretty bland interior some character.

It’s going to be as good as City’s hospo, which is by far the best in the league
