New Everton Stadium

It's just trying to stir the pot for hits and likes. If there was a group of people that are drawn to places named after slave traders to spout hate and a return to those ways then I could understand it is a big deal. To a man everyone thinks slavery was bad but it was still legal at that time, we have to be aware that someone could also do bad things and good things and we should be able to look at both sides, open and honestly. Of course there are limits to this and I'm not suggesting for a second Stalin and Hitler deserve any praise for anything they might have done right.

By removing his and other names we lose those discussion points and with it the plight of the people who had to go through the indignity of slavery. His work helped the city of Liverpool and he should be praised for that, just as his involvement in the slave trade deserves condemnation. A memorial of some sort keeps the future generations learning lessons that need to be told. A lot of kids may not have any interest at school in history but tied in with a love of football they may be able to take away something at our new home.

FWIW the planned museum/exhibition space in the Hydraulic Tower has, from the very outset included the intention to educate on the site history and slavery issues as Kenyon referenced it over coffee & biscuits after a business breakfast when we were still pre-lease.

Hopefully that has not changed but we can keep the pressure up through fan organisations to ensure the club tells the full history, positive and negative, as well as setting out how much the club does to build a better present and future. For me that is the right response.

PS Hughes was definitely using the opportunity to have a sly dig but that does not mean it was not informative and in need of telling

He failed the basics of journalism - to check
his story out by getting a response from Everton FC. Ask yourself whether he'd have done that to Liverpool FC.

'It is getting Built regardless'. That is all that matters
