New Everton Stadium

People keep saying this, but its going to happen

They simply won't be leaving Goodison mid-season

It's a huge cost to have a stadium sat empty. If there are delays and it's not ready until April 2025 then I can see why they wouldn't. Anything earlier then it is a massive waste.

I'm with you it would be almost anticlimactic to move mid season, so my personal hope is we have our last game at Goodison next season and then BMD is ready after the international break around September and we play at another ground or start with 4-6 away fixtures.

I remember somebody on some website or other who'd done a study as part of their degree or something about the split. The root cause of it (according to him) is that Goulding was a brewer who wanted to sell his beer inside the ground. The rest of the board were against it. This caused him to bump up the rent to make up the money he wasn't earning from selling his ale. And that caused the split.
I attended a talk about it by historian Peter Lupson. He said Alcohol and politics were the fundamental issues. Houlding was a Tory, orangeman and brewer. Most of the rest were Liberal, tea totallers. The rent issue was just the final straw for an already very fractured group.

They did pay the rent, but didn't want to continue paying it. If Holding hadn't been greedy things would have been very different.
I think, in the end, in retrospect & considering all the things, Holding's 350 or whatever it was, was a "shut up and take my money"-kinda deal. Oh how much trouble & idiocy wouldn't have been created to the world...

Spurs had to move during the season, we don't and won't

They do not want to leave Goodison before the May. They won't be doing a Goodison send-off in January.
To be fair, Spurs didn't have to move mid-season, they extended the lease period on Wembley so had until the end of the season.

I'm not saying we will or we won't move mid-season, will depend on a number of factors. However, I expect LoR will handover the stadium December/ Jan time and then we'd need at least 4 months from then, if not longer, to sort everything else out e.g. test events, staff traning/ re-locating etc etc.

The likelihood is therefore that we simply wouldn't be ready to move until the close season anyway.

Correct

Correction: Houlding, of course

Does anyone have the construction timeline that LOR put out at the start of construction? Interested to know how on target it is. IIRC the roof trusses were to be finished at Easter. Not bad going if that was accurate.
We're way off what was submitted at planning stage. According to that, the roof should have been nearly finished in Jan/Feb time.

However, LoR will be working to a different programme, the one below from Planning is what the press were using as a stick to beat us with recently.

No it was around the time they released a 3D tool which allowed them track progess, probably about 6 months ago.

Why won't they? Surely they'll want it to start paying for itself asap. Spurs moved during the season.

I think that Spurs was quite a different situation with them paying rent on a stadium, rather than just delaying additional income, that's before you consider that it was the national stadium they were renting.
