I haven't read that he wanted to sell beer inside the ground, but he owned the Sandon pub which was Everton's HQ and some the club Commitee were anti alcohol and were often in dispute with him. He had acquired ownership of Anfield and he increased the rent
by 150% between1887-88 and 1888-89. In January 1892, a Commitee member, George Mahon, found a site North of Stanley Park
which they developed into the first purpose built football stadium in the world.
