New Everton Stadium

Not saying you're wrong but a lot of those clubs have a very low starting point. I think our average will increase but probably the least out of all those clubs, maybe 2000-5000. There's only a handful of games a season we sell out and it obviously depends on our results on the pitch.

Also those stats only show the season after the build, obviously a lot of fans will be curious to visit their new stadium in the first season. Do you know if the trend continued or did attendances fall back?

Some increased even further. Within a couple of years Sunderland were averaging 46000, that was an increase of 26000 on just 5 years earlier.

The thing you need to remember is that Everton is a huge club. As recently as 25 years ago we were capable of getting 50000+ crowds. Man City are the perfect example - they weren't selling out Maine Road, yet they moved stadiums and added 10-13000 fans to their average gate. Where did they all come from? This was pre-billions too, City had a poor team at the time & still greatly increased. Every team that moves stadium gets a good increase in their average gate. If Everton got the same increase , it would be up to the club to retain those fans (I'm sure they would).

Short sightedness will kill ambition. It's the reason why the Park End only has one tier & not two. 'We only need that' is not the mindset to have when building a new stadium. You have to think of the future & not have unfounded fears.

The reason we don't really sell out is the obstructed views we currently have 4000 of them and the only discount price is one pound off your ticket. If say the price came down to like maybe £10 off the orginal price then I think more people would be willing to buy a ticket. I do think we could atleast get 48000 per match if we built a 50k stadium.

What I will say if we build a new stadium is that we need to greatly improve our commercial team and try to build 40-60 boxes. This is a no brainier really as its one way to steadly increase the revenue

My favourite stadium template is the awesome Veltins Arena (Schalke 04). I don't think we'll have the funds to for similar spec but it should be the aim.

Capacity is boosted to about 62,000 because of safe standing. It may never come to the Prem which I can't get my head around. Having stood in the home end at Schalke, in clearly stewarded areas, with a pint in hand (this part I don't think will ever happen in the UK), I felt safer than any surge in a seated stadium where I've felt more likely to fall over the seat in front! There were probably 15-16,000 standing in the home end, and 4,000 in an away corner. The rest, all seating.

Anyways, I digress. For internationals, and some concerts the stadium is converted into all-seater, this reduces capacity to around 54,000. This is roughly our starting point.

So - if this stadium plan of ours is real, just by keeping the ability to add safe standing would solve our potential expansion plans - either that or keeping at least 2 of the stands expandable in case safe standing never reaches the Prem - some say it will never happen.

Having experienced it, including seeing the pitch being rolled into the stadium, a perfectly closed roof (optional and probably too expensive for our design) and spacious fan zone areas outside the ground - it's easily my second favourite ground after Goodison. It's more hexagonal than bowl shaped, so it's more atmospheric. The roof is pretty cumbersome but ensures it's multi-purpose venue (this could help with any government/third party funding support)

Final point: "In order to provide for over 60,000 spectators, the Veltins-Arena is equipped with an abundance of catering facilities. With 15 small restaurants, 50 grilling stations and 35 cafés, the stadium can serve up to 2,500 kg of sausages, 7,000 pretzels, and 1,000 m2 of pizza in one day. These catering areas are connected to a 5 km long beer-line, supplying them with roughly 52,000 litres of beer per match day."

On the point of expanding a 50.000 all- seater stadium, I'm sure I read somewhere that when the Arse build their stadium, the seating was purposely made slightly wider so that if they need to expand all they need to do was remove the wider seat and replace them with smaller ones and so increase capacity. This might be total bullocks. If the Arse never done this and it's something I've imagined I may have hit on a great idea. Do you think there could be a bit of commission coming my way.

People who think that the club expected the council to fund the stadium really don't understand the world of business one single bit. The hope would be that the council would help to establish partnerships with and raise funding from 3rd parties, other businesses etc... perhaps include the new stadium in an overall regeneration scheme, which could benefit the whole area.

Can anyone update me on approximately how much revenue we don't collect annually compared to the alleged 50.000 stadium? Would we expect to have full houses with that magnitude as well?

For our board this is a bit too much like 'long-term thinking' for my liking. I'd rather our current board just concentrate their efforts in supporting Roberto financially than try to organise another ground move. The club is supposed to be for sale so I don't want us building some inferior stadium then having to sell one of our stars. Just keep us improving and let our eventual billionaire owner build us a stadium-palace, built from marble and gold.

With the price the tickets currently are at now, we will not fill 50,000 - so the new stadium should not be bigger than 50,000 (but the structure should be in place that if we wanted to extended to 60,000 it is easily done.

I think that in the modern context, with broadcast revenues what they are, a new stadium should allow us to up our game with commercial revenue. That lot over the park earn more from Sponsorship than our total turnover. That then means that matchday revenue is less important in the overall picture (and will be boosted anyway by having a greater corporate box offering, meaning better pricing - Everton's is currently too expensive due to having too few boxes).

Therefore I'd think there'd be a case for offering great incentives for season tickets. We already offer great kids tickets (knowing full well they need an adult with them). If they could get the pricing right, it ought to be possible to put an extra few thousand on the gate (at an iconic location not out-of-town), and with secondary revenues from matchday F&B, merch etc. it should stack up.
