In fairness its an excellent strategy from the club.

We wanted compact.
We wanted intimidating (wht's more intimidating than 22 players in that confined space
We'll continue to concede fewer goals
We'll continue to score fewer goals.

Bonus?
Our squad cant play a pass further than 5-10 yards so that'll be perfect for them.

We appointed directors of football and they signed absolute dross in the Moyes/first season Martinez period we made hardly any big mistakes in the transfer market and we absolutely knocked it out of the park on several occasions. Martyn, Howard, Coleman, Arteta, Pienaar, Jags, Lescott, Distin, Baines, Cahill, Barry is a ridiculous run of incredible signings for very little out lay. Even the bigger buys like Fellaini and Lukaku were massive hits. Kenwright was a huge part of that.

You do know we also had to sell a lot of those that you've listed. As well as the best talent of his generation, Rooney for a relative pittance.

Blue Bill has been absolutely instrumental in our decline as a club. The Kings Dock fiasco was unforgivable and he should have been chased out back in 2003 when they fell through. If he would have had his way and we moved to the Kirkby Tescodome back in 2010 we would be in Wigan Athletics position now.
