New Everton Stadium

I don't need to be convinced. I adore the place already.
To build it where we have, with all that it took to make it possible, was a massive risk.
What we have to look forward to will be the envy of football.
People will moan about transport, capacity and whatever else they wanna moan about but when that place is rammed full of nearly 53k rabid Evertonians there won't be many better places in the world to play football.
And it's ours 💙
I read that in Martin Tyler's voice my son.
"And it's ouuuuuuurs!!!"

God bless.

It hit me for the first time this weekend that there aren’t many left at Goodison.

Whilst it’s needed, it’s going to be incredibly strange not going down County Road pre match anymore. I said to my wife that it’s unlikely I’ll ever go down county road again for a pint once the blues move.

I’ll have to find a new match day boozer. Town or the docks? The Bramley Moore and Beirkeller will be heaving every week.

I think everyone would love a bigger stadium but I think 53K is fine.
There's only a hand full of club stadiums around Europe with higher capacity. Some of them are shared, some are also national stadiums, others are athletic stadiums. The number of unique club specific stadiums above 53k is very small.
I doubt there's any clubs that have never made the group stages of the CL with a purpose built 53k stadium.
I doubt there's any clubs that havent won anything in nearly 30 years with a purpose built 53k stadium.
It's bigger than where Juventus, PSG, Porto, and pretty much every Spanish side bar 3 play.
For where we're at, it's fine.
Infact we're incredibly lucky (fingers crossed!)
I'm glad everyone agree's with me.

Club on the bones of it’s arse, can’t afford to build 70k super stadium scoop ! It will never get changed. It is the size it is. If Uzi hadn’t been banished by sanctions, it maybe / probably could/ would have been much bigger.

It’s a compromise borne of Mosh’s suddenly missing Russian billions. We must have just passed the point of no return, in terms of contracts, with ROL to build it.

It will always be a stadium that could have been so much more, but can’t be, because we had idiots and gangsters running the club.

The design will inevitably have been compromised to keep costs down. No company in distress ploughs on with investment without cutting cost.

It looks good, hopefully it provides a superb experience for those of us lucky enough to get there.

I think there are 6 larger football stadiums in Spain, 9 larger German stadia (with safe standing), 4 larger Italian, with several other larger football stadia elsewhere in Europe.

Juventus is a peculiar comparison. They are often cited as the most popular team in Italy in terms of national fanbase. Many of their fans argued that 40k was too small for their new stadium, and that appeared to be the case for the first few seasons, but now they often seem to struggle to fill that. Not sure if that's due to the team's performances, ticket prices, novelty worn off or the general stagnation of attendances in Italy, but they were definitely an example of a club limiting the capacity to lower the construction costs and to squeeze ticket prices in order to find that sweetspot.

Perhaps the more local comparison is the most pertinent. BMD will be 7th largest football stadium in England when it opens. With Newcastle, Chelsea, Leeds and perhaps Villa currently considering expansions to 53k+. Even Birmingham City's owners have proposed grandiose plans for a new 60k stadium. So, within a few years we could be further down that list than we currently are at GP. The choice to move to a location with high site-specific costs and losing the CWG bid has clipped our ambitions in terms of capacity. Moshiri gambled that this would generate a step-increase in the value of his total investment, but it looks like that hasn't yet materialised and he's now having to sell the whole club for a fraction of just the stadium build, walking away with a massive loss.....! So, it's hard to make a case for a complete new stadium of larger capacity at present. Especially one with the additional costs of BMD, so 53k was the compromise. Tbh, that may yet be more than sufficient if ticket prices are excessive.

Pretty much sums it up.
It's about time this size argument was put to bed it's 53k and will stay that way barring an upturn in stafe standing.
Being in such a prime location there was/ are restraints from the very start.
The height of the stadium is strictly governed in the planning application , any higher it would have been rejected . They even had to lower it a little early on.
It was common local local knowledge that the height was at the limit of the Tobacco warehouse opposite.
This was never a freebie like West ham or City , nor a monstrosity like Analfield or Old Trafford.
It's a purpose built state of the art magnificent football stadium with a higher than normal capacity in a glorious location.
We should all be proud and delighted with what we've got not bickering over mine is bigger than yours.
I know I am.

Think this is the reality. Fans need to accept that there is likely to be a substantial increase in season ticket costs and individual match ticket prices. Everton ticket prices are historically some of the cheapest in the league. In order to increase revenue and make us competitive again, this will probably change.
I suspect there won’t be a massive increase in the number of season tickets made available- at least in the short term. Individual match tickets raise more money than season tickets over a season. For as long as there is the novelty of wanting to see a game in a new stadium, that will be more financially lucrative.
The biggest benefit in the short term of increasing season ticket numbers, is the money comes in earlier. Season ticket sales are completed by the end of the previous season- so appear in the accounts of that year. So our 24/25 accounts will include the first round of season ticket sales for the new ground. This should add to the easing of financial pressures next summer when we can hopefully start to meaningfully improve the team.

The size of the stadium is nothing to do with sanctions. It was locked well before the war began.

There’s no evidence of any corners being cut since then, either.

I think we all need to enjoy what will be one of the very best stadia in European football first before we start concerning ourselves with expansion.

If we find its necessary in 5 or 10 years, a way will be found.

Yes, the capacity was reduced after the CWG's bid failed. The sanctions didn't come in till after the dock was filled and construction had started.

Whether or not "a way will be found" will depend on costs, owner's ROI requirements and any on-going or new site-specific restrictions, that may become evident once it is up and running. Planning constraints in terms of height may be less stringent for an established stadium, but that's by no means a given on heritage sites. Site contraints in terms of access/egress and transport may also be limiting factors. So whether or not we have painted ourselves into a corner in terms of future-proofing the stadium, is yet to be seen.

We’re getting a brand new state of the art stadium in the best available location in Liverpool, with a 30% increase in capacity, for a fraction of the build cost (assuming TFG goes through and the balance sheet is restructured). So lots to be positive about. And if the capacity turns out to be not enough, that will probably be because we are doing well on the pitch and commercially, and may justify expansion in the future. Things could be a lot worse.
