New Everton Stadium

Although completely unnoticeable in the majority of drone videos, there have been odd occasions when the pattern has definitely shown on a panel or two, after rainfall if I remember correctly when the brickwork was wet. Still only tiny sections visible, mind. As others have said, though, the uniform brick has grown on me and I would prefer that - or even subtle leitch sections in the right conditions - over 4 stories of lines and crosses. If we're going off the original renders, however, and the prominence of the design, that's some pretty poor quality control considering they had at least one test panel up (maybe they needed more up together to get a better idea of the design prominence).

….we occasionally watch ‘Location, Location’ on telly and as with all property purchases, there will always be a few things the new residents aren’t entirely happy with, which is always going to be the case with 50,000 moving in.

They call it compromise but the key point is really being happy with the new place and looking forward to getting in.

With these videos that the club are releasing we should get an accurate idea of the capacity for each stand and Tier.

North Stand Upper Capacity = 5,986
North Stand Lower Capacity = 2,760
North Stand Total Capacity = 8,746

To estimate capacity you have to add in some away fans to the North stand total as they occupy a chunk of the lower North and lower East in that corner. Do those figures include the disabled seating or is that being sold separately?

I for one will be pleased if it stays as is and you can't see the pattern. Pastiches often look tacky and that's what this was heading to.

The tops of the railings and benches, nice little touches. Four storey high crosses all over the brickwork, not for me.

I understand the concern about reto descending into pastiche design. That said, you could say that the brick and black facade is an entirely pastiche representation of a traditional Victorian warehouse. No actual example would have the number of vertical metal clad loading bays, nor would they be as irregularly spaced almost like a bar code. Yet they are the predominant retro-design feature. In the longer term, will it become facadism or tacky pastiche?

The Leitch criss-cross pattern wasn't just an aesthetic flurry on his part. They are structural elements to strengthen the front balcony truss wall and allow for fewer supporting columns (which had been a major criticism of the earlier Park End double-decker). There could have been a genuine structural homage to Leitch elseshere, which might've avoided any criticism regarded token pastiche or retro. Some might actually see some of that in some of the truss work. Also, decorative patterns in brickwork were quite common in Victorian buildings, so perhaps it could work.

I sometimes wonder what Dan Meiss makes of the of all the changes and modifications to his original design - I imagine it is very annoying to have your concept watered down by value-engineering or manufacturing issues.

I am slightly irritated by the lack of consistency in many of the finishes used, but I have worked in enough manufacturing environments to know it is practically impossible to get everything just right.

Ultimately it is a football stadium and the match day experience is the main priority - I don't really worry about whether it will be the biggest or best looking as long as it provides a good day out.

I think it'll only be clear once all the stands are revealed, the away capacity may be included in the East Stand total.

Also, do we think it'll be a stand each day that gets information put out? East today, West tomorrow and South on Thursday, or is that wishful thinking? They did say 'in the coming days' like.
