New Everton Stadium

Why are you still going on about Kirkby Tom?

I wasn't totally against the idea, though I had reservations. The one argument that did wind me up is the "it's not in the city" bollocks. As far as I'm concerned, Kirkby is part of Liverpool. Don't care what some line drawing, vote influencing politicians say. To say Kirkby is not in Liverpool is akin to trying to tell Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea et al that they're not in London.

I only mentioned Kirkby because I was falsely accused (again) of being against anything other than redevelopment, and also to respond to the paucity/fallacy of the argument of not ever questioning "professionals".

No-one ever said that Kirkby was outside Merseyside.... however the key point was that it was a poor location on the peripheries and was clearly at the behest of third parties. Most of the same arguments would've applied to a proposal to move to Speke or Gillmoss (both within the city boundary), albeit with a slight name change to the campaign.

I am 76 yes old in January and have terminal cancer, I treated myself to a corporate seat knowing it was for 3 seasons. Didn't even think I would make the new stadium but I'm getting closer, it gave me something to aim for and I'm not going anywhere till we win a cup. Gives me another 50 years.😂

I like your confidence that we may win a cup in 50 years time 😆

Wishing you all the best 💙

Yeah, I was never sold on the location, but not because of lines on a map. ;)

I hope that Everton give you some happy memories

I would've thought that not insisting something is what it isn't, would be an easier way to preserve sanity.

I was looking at a stadium on the dock and elsewhere when you were probably happy clapping Kirkby, quoting multiple "professionals" saying it was the deal of the century, the most accessible stadium in the country etc. How did that work out again? Isn't it good that a few discernable blues bothered to question it?

Looked at all my docs again and the cheapest was £1950 + VAT.

That's what I remember looking at the West stand offerings. If I saw something at 1600 I would have been very interested. That's not to say you couldn't pick up something at that price but like you say that might have been a special discount on that particular day and could have been just for a handful of seats.

I found a post from me in here at the start of the year, saying I would be happy paying £1200 for a place to sit down but with a paid bar, so I would call up and hand my cash over now if I could for Club View. Obviously not being a current ST holder, all those will be sold out by the time I possibly get a chance to look.

I think Keep Everton In Our City (KEIOC) beg to differ on that as they were the forefront of not wanting a KirkbyDrome purely because it was outside the city.

On reflection (I was all for the move to Kirkby being from there), the biggest frustration was always not progressing under Kenwright given the ample opportunities (Kings Dock, European Football etc) and that just added to it.

I think KEIOC were ahead of their time given how globalised the Premier League is today - and how dependent the competitive clubs have become on foreign fans and tourists. The BMD stadium is going to be a massive attraction to those who visit England for football, Evertonians and otherwise. It’s city centre location is very attractive.

As much as I love Goodison, it’s a bit of a traipse to get there on a bus (that broke down on my last visit) and a stroll from town to the dock is far more engaging an experience.

The allure of chimney stack grounds has long past. And suburban backwaters hold no joys either.
