I was a member of KEIOC from its formation at the CASA in Hope street. The being outside the Liverpool boundary was a handy anchor for our name that was pretty much thought up on a whim. It was also not lost on the Kopites who jumped on it with sock robber chants straight away. They key issues for everyone involved was the unsuitabily of any peripheral site, the complete lack of a redevelopment option in the ballot and the various lies that came with it, which some were privvy to. Dave Kelly is also a Kirkby resident.... i was also working in Kirkby at Balfour Beatty just prior to it. So it certainly wasn't an anti-kirkby per se.

Was a big concern though wasn't it? Taking money out of the city etc. Yes, from an insider POV it's the a catchy slogan to get your foot in the door to get a voice heard.

Everyone outside of it took it as face value that created a divide in the fanbase and ridicule from across the park of who are the "proper" scousers.

Found that whole angle distasteful at the time regardless of the underlying cause of concerns.
