New Everton Stadium

There are 1000s of tickets left for Peterborough a few days before we play them - IMO its due to it being midweek . We will have 13,000 more seats to fill in 8 months time. The transport issues at BMD should not be lightly dismissed.

I'm unable to open the seat map at the moment, can you tell roughly how many are left? Over a week to go till the match, but still surprised that they haven't sold out.

And its being played on a Thursday night. The magic of the FA cup was all about the first weekend in January, with the top teams coming into the competition in the 3rd round. Even games with teams that were 3 or 4 levels apart had a buss about them, especially from the massive travelling support from the smaller teams getting a chance to play in the top division grounds, and having so many of these type of games being played over a couple of days at the weekend. There`s no magic playing on a Thursday night and its a shame as it makes it really tough for any Perterbourgh fans to get to a game because of the long journey and folks having to work and kids having school the next day.

Yes, these could all be factors, but we're supposed to have 32k+ on the waiting list desperate to get a season ticket. This could also be our last ever cup match at Goodison (under the lights etc), and it's only £20, £10 concessions and £5 for kids.

You’re correct, the club seem to pedal that figure however I’m sure the shareholders meeting said roughly half of that figure are paying members.

Anyone actually serious about being a season ticket holder would pay for a membership, not to mention how many have changed circumstances since they signed up etc. When the time comes to stump up hard earned money for one I imagine the figure to be a lot less, especially after we’re settled in to the new ground if things haven’t improved on the pitch.

Even though we pride ourselves on being the club that the people of the city support, a good amount of folks on the waiting list would likely be from a good distance from Liverpool and travel on a Thursday night would be a tough ask. We mock the RS for having so many fans from far away, but you just have to see the airport and Lime street station on an Everton match day to see how many folks travel some distance to see games at Goodison. We`ve season ticket holders from all over, Ireland, Scotland and a huge crowd travel from down south too, and how many of them will have to say they`ll have to give Thursday a miss when they would be able to make it on a weekend.
We`ll get big crowds at the new ground, especially league games, but when games are scheduled for days and times that make it difficult for people to travel to and from the game they`ll be left with unsold tickets no matter how cheap they price them.

The football in the main is absolutely woeful tbf. I've bitten the bullet and purchased tickets for me and my lad as I reckon this will be our last chance to get a game in at Goodison.

I still think the attendance will get to around 36-37k, Peterborough will struggle to sell half of the allocation they would have been given if it was a Saturday kick off as well.

Roughly half the size of our ground, for roughly a sixth of the budget?

Good luck, Cagliari!

Yes, cost/capacity is not a linear relationship, even before taking into account any additional site-specific costs (like filling a dock). I think it is still possible to build a very basic small stadium for approx £1k-£3k per seat in mosy of Europe. As soon as you go into larger stands with 2, 3 or more tiers, or with complex corners or closing roofs etc, this can double, triple or more than quadruple.... hence the massive difference in cost with ours.

Casement Park was a bit more of a working example. Just over 30k seats for £400m

Sad really that the stadium has to have a sponsors name. I rather like BMD

Mind you, Spurs can’t seem to get a sponsor as Levy is being too greedy seeking £25m/year
Years ago I went to a midweek game at Goodison v Arsenal - was given a match ticket and invite to one of the "unofficial" lounges on Goodison Road. (This one was really well run - and had people like Howard Kendall and John Bailey in post-match).

After the game a few Arsenal suits came in. We got talking about their naming rights sponsorship. At the time it was hailed as ground-breaking as it was £150m over 10 years. However, the sponsorship market had shifted and now (i.e. then) they were really frustrated and waiting for the deal to get near the end so they could renegotiate - which they obviously did. But that first deal was worth £15m per annum for shirt and stadium name. By the end of that deal, Man Utd were getting £10m a year for their training ground and kit, and were pushing for £40m a year for the shirt deal.

I'm not suggesting what sort of figures we're going to get - but long-term deals need to be carefully structured as they have potential to have you "leaving money on the table" if the terms aren't right.

Hopefully TFG have a commercial team better than anything we've ever had in my lifetime at Everton (and I'm the wrong side of 50).

Casement Park is a bit of a political hot potato, and the cost estimate varies massively, depending on whether you ask the British Government, Sinn Fein and/or the GAA. I know the original costs were less than £100m, but that was probably 10yrs ago and possibly a much different design.

There's plenty of examples across the whole range, and many for far less. Aarhus in Denmark for instance..... think it's approx £65m for 24k capacity. Or indeed Cagliari's current very basic stadium, which is about 8yrs old and only cost £8m for 16k.

There’s an element of walking before running too though.
I get your point about signing up for 10 years, only to become super successful after say 5 years and the deal might look poor value.
IIRC some of the Man U deals had / have performance clauses and their recent form means they aren’t achieving the headline figures.

Right now, £10m per season for 10 years would be reasonable, £20m P/S for 10year is rip you arm off territory.
Also if they can negotiate the lower value but front loaded, that too would be quite remarkable imho.

I guess a pro rata buy out clause would be the answer but I assume it’s not that simple 🤔
