New Everton Stadium

Forgive my leanings of doubt towards this whole thing. We've continually made an embarrassment of ourselves in announcing things that never ever happen, including three previous stadium moves - and that's just in the past twenty years.

Then I have more concerns if it did get off the ground as any money would be funnelled away from the team towards the stadium. Those currently with big shareholdings have shown no intent to invest actual money of their own into growing Everton, their asset, to even facilitate a good sale.

I should be excited but with the likes of Elstone and the board in place I just can't be.

Well if anything does get announced, just bear in mind that the fantastic looking stadium we are about to visit in Lille cost €282 mill, and thats with a 'strike happy' French labour force that will in no way have been on pish wages, so lets see how it stacks up against that place.

Another design like that Kirkby Box will be totally uninspiring and not worthy of bearing our Motto.

Walton Hall would satisfy most in relation to the proximity to Goodison, but it really does need to be an inspiring design as well.

I'd still like to see someone graft other stadiums onto our current site though to finally prove whether anything could fit in there or not, even more so with some of the newer grounds having a seemingly smaller footprint with being closer to the pitch and all that.

£223m bargain.

Given the extra match revenue
Extra boxes n corporate money
Increased likelihood of buying Bill out

You have to spend money to make money

By contrast Juventus' new stadium with a capacity of over 40,000 cost £90m. I don't buy that to add 10000 extra seats costs £150m on top.

I think this is the general consensus of most Blues, cynicism rules, and given what's happened in the past, rightly so.

Unless / until a new stadium is opened and we're actually playing there and know how much it's costing us up front and what debt's needed to service it then it's hard to get too excited. Given what appears to be going on behind the scenes and the general environment around Premiership footie, it does look like something is much more likely to happen this time round.

A new stadium's only part of the jigsaw though in terms of us pushing on, it's the other pieces which concern me.
