New Everton Stadium

Made up that West Have aren't having a good time at 'their' new stadium. If the views aren't good then that's almost impossible to fix.

I didn't realise they contributed quite so little to the cost of converting it to a football stadium.

They deserve everything they get.

I'm assuming Upton Park, or 'The Boleyn Ground' as they started to call it is in the process of demolition now.

Hahahahahaha. I bet the new bubble machines are good though.

I reckon that stadium would look sick in the championship.

I don't think we should discount a possible tie in with the CG's but it would have to be beneficial to us and on our terms. Instead of them building a new stadium, they pay us say a ballpark figure of 100 million. If we were short of funding by that amount then it makes sense. Up until Moshiri bought into the club that was all we could hope for.

They would have to pay the conversion costs for any trick system that would get round the fact that the pitch level would need to be increased and then decreased afterwards.

The general stadium layout would have to be whatever we want it to be and then converted as best as it can be for athletics, none of this wham fiasco. But to get the field size it needs to be i guess they would lose the whole lower tier, in that case the roof would have to be able to come off and a new temporary tier would have to be added. Sounds like a lot of work to me, but all options should be on the table especially if it gives us a better chance of a new stadium on the docks.

Why would they need to add a new tier? Just how many seats do you think they'd need for the CG's?

Using very (very!) loose arithmetic if you look at a similar capacity stadium to what we are probably planning, around the 55k mark and pick one - I chose the Amsterdam arena, it's 2 tier, 25k lower and 28k upper. Remembering that Hampden's floor had to be raised by 2 meters despite it being an oval with a much more room around the pitch and stands with less rake than the ones likely to be in our stadium then effectively you are going to lose most if not all of the first tier.

You will be left with a 28-30k stadium for the games and that's why it would need some form of additional seating. Looking at pictures of the city of manchester stadium in games mode (it's a similar situation as ground level was where the middle tier now is) even that maybe is not enough as the one end was effectively open to create more space.

The more I look the more I think it's impossible unless we convert after the games.

Does seem to be a bit daft to build a stadium for just football when there's a whole Games event just round the corner.

I appreciate it wouldn't be on to share with the Horrors but Wigan and St Helens aren't too far away are they? We could rent for a bit and put some money toward renovations? Maybe even sell another player like this summer?
I've said before in this thread, commonwealth games does not require a massive 60k+ stadium. If LCC want to host the games, let them build a small-scale athletics stadium somewhere. Could become the national athletics centre much like the Manchester Velodrome has for cycling.

The only time they will need any like the stadiums 65k seats is for the opening/closing ceremony. Even 40k would be bigger than games capacity of the COMS which only gained 10k with the extra tier after digging down (Partly down to the temp seating capacity)

I just don't think it's impossible.

Yup. Create a simple 20k athletics arena with one stand having a big temporary stand for the Games which could be downsized afterwards.

They would only end up with a 40k stadium even with temporary seating added. Nearly 30k seats would be under the floor of the athletics track. It would be a lot of work removing the roof etc. to build up unless we started at a 65k stadium to begin with.

I think we should still be open minded about it but probably we would have to take over after the games, unless we use it in games mode for a few seasons. Although I can imagine the stink that would be kicked up by doing that.

Do you know we're not starting at 65k?
