I encouraged anyone and everyone to keep putting the 61878 number out there at every opportunity. Seemed the perfect number at the time. However there was never any official line quoting 61878 as the proposed attendance.
Similar to yesterday's clamouring of 'TFG want to expand the ground' when what was actually said was they want to increase the clubs footprint in the surrounding area.
So the 61878 thing was primarily my fault and not anyone at the club.

Not sure you can say this, as the multi year plan was to build the stadium in the first place. It was built to the specs warranted at the time due to costs and given how much it is to redevelop compared to an initial build, it's understandable there wouldn't be an immediate plan to expand. Especially given the repayment costs.

Circumstances of the writing off of the debt allows a new entity to think about it...if they seriously are.

I do however agree with your point that in normal circumstances, away from the stadium build, that is exactly how they have and would operate.

Yes and I used it again, but the 60k+ initial designs were very much official and even part of the initial planning submissions that outlined both North-south and East-west orientations etc.

We could have filled a bigger ground for the first year or so, but unless we get challenging for silverware or the top 6 there`ll be a drop off in interest. In the eighties the ground held about 58k with standing room when we were top of the pile, but in a short space of time there were lots of games when there was plenty of empty seats in the ground. The reason we`ve been selling out this and last season is because we`re approaching the end of Goodison. If we continue with finishes in the bottom half and early cup exits, a 60k + stadium would have a lot of empty seats.
Anyway we`ll see how we get on filling 52K every game for the foreseeable future.

Any reference to attendances in the 80's (or 60's for that matter) is totally irrelevant.
