Hi
I'm pretty new to soccer/association football. It's not Australia's game (that's rugby league/union and Australian Rules football) and most of my exposure has come from catching the soccer programmes on SBS.

I'd like to make friends here as I've had a difficult time recently.

welcome mate my name carlos21 if you need any help.

Welcome to GOT. It's a good website. I'd also try Toffeeweb which is a bit like here, but a bit more grown up :dodgy:. Bluekipper is for halfwits. Can I ask you a question? How does it work in Australia, geographically speaking? Are both rugby codes and Aussie rules equally popular all over the country, or does a certain part of that huge country favour a particular sport over another? On another note, why did football (soccer) never travel down under in the late 19th/early 20th century, and yet rugby did?

Hope your new found interest keeps your spirits up.

If you don't like it here go back to Toffeeweb mate, I always found that place a bit up itself for my liking.

To answer, Aussie rules is favoured in Victoria, League is more popular in Queensland and NSW. The rest I don't think have a favourite. Football is a mockery!

Footy was considered to be a Pommie Game down there and then later on after the Italians & Greeks arrived a (insert W word) game, the fact that all of the more recent Asian Migrants are crazy for it only goes to increase the Aussie Males dislike for it.

I'm an Aussie female. I like association football but I only been to a few games when we went to Central Coast NSW to see my mother's relatives. I live in Tasmania but spent my young childhood in Victoria where my dad tried to make me into an Aussie rules fan. He had old VHS tapes of 1980s and 1990s World Cups. I'm sorry for speaking of Dad in the past tense but he's in the mid-stages of early onset dementia. adding to my own genetic-caused illness, it puts my mother and family under a lot of strain.

I'm sorry I just get overwhelmed by my life/
