NHL

Opening night for the NHL!
Who does everyone like?
Went to the Caps last preseason game on Friday. I’m not sure if he was out of shape, hungover or what but Ovechkin looked miles off it
surely this is the year (again) for the Stars

After a run of cheeky analysts predicting the Lightning wouldn't even make the playoffs, with Buffalo taking their place, it was nice to see the Sabres get beat 5-1 in their home opener

For shame. Leonsis planning to move the Capitals/Wizards out of the District to Northern Virginia.

Terrible. I'm not from the region, but seems like there are so many ways to make this work that it's unecessary to move. Also, who cares about Virginia? Isn't that just the Pentagon, two airports, an outlet mall, and some suburban houses?

It seems like Nats/DC United has been a huge success. I would think you could redevelop RFK as a hockey/basketball arena and tear down Capitol One area and redeveliop as prime real estate. All that would take is a few hundred million in local dollars and a few deep-pocketed, future looking developers, but it's a solid idea to me.

If this goes through, it’s really going to devastate the Penn Quarter area. They’ve got a great thing going with the current setup. Ideal Metro access, tons of restaurants, bars, etc.
I’m just not buying the need to modernize the arena malarkey. Been to two games this year- seems up-to-date in every way. Not like the Isles old arena that was literally falling apart.
I’m sure they will get some massive tax breaks as they head into this “DINK” heavy area. Caps have a big Maryland component of their fan base not sure they will follow the team to Virginia.

Yup. Nats/DC United have been a big success. Especially DC United. The problem for the Nats is a far superior stadium (and team for the time being) is 30 miles north). I think the issue with redeveloping RFK is that there is only housing surrounding the stadium. So it’s not really a place to linger, grab dinner/beers, etc.
