Joseph Yobo has been condemned by Nigeria FA official Taiwo Ogunjobi for reacting to criticism from former international, Segun Odegbami.

Odegbami recently described Yobo as an 'unsuitable' choice to marshal the Super Eagles' defence but was met with a less than pleasant response from the Everton man.

Yobo was quoted as calling Odegbami a mere ‘spectator’, amongst other insults, and his comments may have got him into hot water.

Speaking to the Sunday Tribune in Nigeria, Taiwo Ogunjobi said:

“Odegbami is very qualified to make comments on football in this country and when he talks, you have to listen.

"To me, he did not speak ill of Yobo but he made the point to allow the player to evaluate himself.

"If Yobo disagrees with Odegbami’s point, all he needed to do was to prove him wrong on the pitch."

Ogunjobi also went on record as agreeing with Odegbami's assessment of Yobo!

"I quite agree with Odegbami. At Everton, he is not the team’s defensive marshal. Everton have good cover for him and Yobo gives me cause for concern whenever he plays for the country. So Odegbami is right.

"I don’t know why Yobo should say Odegbami was disrespectful to him. Who should defer to the other, Yobo or Odegbami? What has Yobo won for Nigeria? What has he won for Everton? Nothing! Odegbami has won the Nations Cup for Nigeria and the African Cup of Winners for the Shooting Stars. He holds the national honour of the Member of the Order of The Niger (MON). So it is Yobo who could be disrespectful to Odegbami and not the other way round.”

Ogunjobi also reportedly cautioned Yobo to 'beware of statements which can affect his future.'

It appears some of the FA in nigeria are looking to oust or at least pressurise yobo.

this in a season when yobo has been ever present and solid.

i dont know the nigeria squad, but id be surprised to find out who they were AND what they had won (not including tin pot cups in africa that mean [Poor language removed] ALL compared to european competitions)

Exactly, if they want to make Yobo the fall-guy for their lack of success, therefore making Yobo less likely to go away for the Nations cup, then good for us.

apart from that, i just dont see it as very fair that certain former players are casping aspersions over a current international regular.

what next? tony adams lecturing rooney over gambling?
