No Room in Football for sentiments?

Apart from football management who should be primarily results driven the game is all about sentiment. Out of the players nominated I'd have voted for Giggs for his longevity over his performance for just this year. I've supported the blues through good times and bad on sentiment. I've shed tears for former players when they have passed away, and on occasion when they've transfered to another team because of sentiment. I'm glad there are still things more important than money or logic. I'm glad Giggs looks like he was rewarded for his work on sentiment.

He's only started 12 games though. It's an award for his services over the last 18 years - but also because it's really his last chance.

Posted via Mobile Device Great post WBM, thoroughly agree with you. - Ghost, i can see your point as well, i think he has been given another 12 months extension to his contract but this season was probably his last (maybe not) for making a major impact on a game - also dont forget he has had outstanding performances this season , including MOTM awards, so it's not entirely undeserved. It's a bit of both i reckon, recognition for season's past as well as this one.

He never plays regular. He now keeps a midfield moving well - but better than Alonso, Barry, Arteta, Ireland, Gerrard, Lampard to name a few? Even United own players such as Carrick?

His age has played a big factor. It seems to shock people that he's that age and he's playing well. So with that shocking revelaion that a great player is still playing well at his age, he gets the player of the year award.

There's a load of players that have played 12 games and been superb in them - Arteta, Robinho, Torres, even Titus fooking Bramble - so by that criteria, why arent they a shoe in?

The shortlist stunk. Who won does also. I dont know 1 manure fan that doesnt think they have been playing awful compared to previous years. And the shortlist was made up entirely of their players? Doesnt make sense.

Considering how the nominations went, this is probably the right result. The nominees showed us that this award has nothing to do with being the best player this season, so Giggs should win. Good for him.

the award is a bit of a joke due to the timing of the vote, last season's performance probably has as much influence as the first part of this season does.

Bit of a scandel Lampard wasnt even nominated.

He's been the best player in the prem this season. Consistent, talented and durable. They'd be below Arsenal and fighting for 4th w/ us and Villa if it wasn't for him. He's even more valuable than Essien which is saying something. Almost every time I watch him play he scores....except against us :D

Bear in mind this one's voted for by all the pro players in the country - the nominations are the same.

No doubt at all he's not even nearly been the best player this season, but he's the one guy that every professional player in the country aspires to emmulate - they can all only ever dream about having his sort of longevity and successes.

He's the absolute empitomy of a pro player (Scholes is close, but loses his head too often) - it's only fitting he should win their award!

Still a very good player and there aren't too many wingers who can play at that high of level for so long. Compared to the others nominated, well if you are going to make this award a joke you might as well give him a lifetime achievement award.

It's a bit like giving Maldini the Golden Ball for this year. Guy has been outstanding for more than 20 years but not this year
