Player Valuation: £50m
This is so funny.

You know it must have seemed like a good idea at the time.

What a way to screw up your miniscule World Cup Chances.

NORTH KOREA have been told striker Kim Myong-Won will only be able to play for them as a KEEPER!

Coach Kim-Jong Hun decided to name only two regular keepers in his squad with Kim, who plays for Amrokgang, as the back-up.
It was seen as an attempt to boost the nation's attacking options as they prepare to face Brazil, Ivory Coast and Portugal in Group G.
But the move has backfired spectacularly after FIFA confirmed that Kim will only be allowed to play in goal — and not as an outfield player.
Unless there is an injury, no changes will be permitted to their final squad.
A FIFA statement said: "The squad lists that the teams had provided to FIFA by June 1, 2010 are final and can no longer be changed.
"On the final lists must be no more than 23 players, three of whom shall be goalkeepers.
"The only exception is in the case of a serious injury of a player in the list of 23, who could be replaced up until 24 hours before the first match of the team in the competition.
"The three players listed as goalkeepers can only play as goalkeepers during the FIFA World Cup and cannot play outfield.
"This will be communicated to the teams in the team arrival meetings and will be enforced on match days."
The statement added: "Kim Myong-Won will not be allowed to play as an outfield player if he has been put on the list as a goalkeeper."

Wasn't there a Mexican keeper who had the same sitiation. Good as an attacker but Fifa wouldn't allow him to register. Seems stupid to me. Should be 23 players and you pick who you want from players eligible. Or can't Milner play as fullback if he's included as a midfielder

I don't know about the FIFA thing, but the keeper was Jorge Campos. He scored 14 goals one year in Mexico.

And I agree, it should be 23 players, there shouldn't be any set number of positions you need to keep. If you want to come to SA with 2 keepers, so be it.

Its a pointless, stupid rule. You should be able to pick whichever players you want and play them where you want. That's not to say I don't think that some people are being very silly in talking about defenders playing in midfield and so on. Those are not clear distinctions, whereas goalkeeper to outfield player is a clear distinction within the laws of association football.

I've got a feeling David James once came on as a sub up front in a Premier League game, Stuart Pearce was his manager, the idea that at 6ft5in he provided a long ball option late in the game that no-one else did.

Just looked that up, I'm right, it was the last day of 2004-05 season, Pearce sent on the sub goalkeeper and moved James up front, it was at Man City. Apparently this would be against the rules at the World Cup.

so funny! But North Koreans will be celebrating anyway since i'm sure their news will report that they won the world cup

It's a stupid rule - pretty unfortunate for that particular player. But as stated, I'm sure North Korea will think they've won the world cup by the time the team comes home.

Yes, but we're not talking about him changing positions during the game. there's nothing within the laws of the game to prevent Moyes putting Tim Howard up front for example (as you point out). Jose Molina, former Atletico Madrid and Deportivo De La Coruña keeper came on as a sub for the Spanish national team as a midfielder. And very nearly scored. Can't see why Fifa have to impose rules in the WC which aren't applied in world football on a normal basis

I think it must be to do with having 3 keepers. Otherwise every team would travel with 2. Although 2 seems more than enough for me. Has there ever been a case of a country using all 3 of their keepers in a tournament?

I bet that not since they were 'allowed' to take 3
