Methuselah

Player Valuation: £35m
My local team, Maidenhead United (I played for them for a couple of seasons 1969/70) last week celebrated the 150th anniversary of their first game on their ground at York Road, Maidenhead. They claim to have the oldest 'continually used' ground in the world. (Hallam FC claim to have the oldest ground but at times it has been used for things other than football.)
Maidenhead United played in the very first FA Cup competition and currently play in the National League.

Have you still got your boots, there's a game in town on Saturday, the Toffs may need someone to make up the numbers.

Modesty forbids you.
But team mates mames we might know.

Saw a game there last season v Dagenham & Redbridge. Very friendly club, nice clubhouse and bar. If the game is poor you can always watch the Paddington bound trains which clang along the embankment at regular intervals even on a Saturday.
(Same happens at Corinthian Casuals but no idea where those trains go). Well done Maidenhead.

The Magpie Burger they served in the early to mid 00’s remains the best burger I’ve ever had in my life. 2 patties, onions and tons of bacon, heart attack on a plate.

I have fond memories of York road growing up. I got a player called Lawrence Yaku to sign my beaten Nike trainers much to his bemusement. We also used to go into the dug out and nick whatever we could and they’d also let us take our ball on the pitch after full time. I also remember Maidenhead almost getting into the FA Cup proper and the ground being absolutely packed to the point you couldn’t move. We snuck in through a well known hole in the fence and watched them either lose or force a replay to a team playing in pink with green socks. There was a streaker that day too.

Haven’t been for years now like.

Alan, once played for Maidenhead United against Dagenham (before Redbridge) at Dagenham. Interesting journey through the centre of London - before M25 was built.

Certainly was. Went on a school trip to the Ford works at Dagenham. You could circumnavigate the globe in the time it took you to get from Hangar Lane to the A10 on the North Circular.

About the same time, I played away against Tilbury. Bit further to travel. After the game, coming back, the driver of the coach started the motor and when he put the coach into gear, the gear stick broke off in his hand. We were delayed until the driver worked out he could change gear by using a pair of pliers he (fortunately) had in his tool box. The gear stick had broken off right at the bottom with only about a quarter of an inch showing through. The guy drove back, through the centre of London, changing gear with the pair of pliers. We got back eventually but respect to that driver.

It's easy to forget when there were no motorway, or hardly any, just 30 miles here, 30 miles there.
When a trip to Dover took 10or so hours Average speed of 35mph

Not much faster now probably.
Just googled it for interest - they claim 5hr 22mins / 55mph average

Any body having that??
