Oasis vs Green Day

Well Green Day are just dirty punk music. In your face distorted coolness. Oasis are a rip off of every great band there is. There is influence and then there is just blatant rip offs.

Another one to add the the ever growing archive of things I disagree with you on (y)

Oasis are one of may favourite bands along with The Jam and The Stone Roses. Green Day are [Poor language removed]. Simple as that for me (y)

Ok, well I don't want to get into scuffles, but I thought Oasis were good initially, then Liam did my head in with his arrogant manc behaviour, and then when he started prouncing around trying to look like a true genius (Lennon) and then calls his kid Lennon. Its like I wish I was John Lennon, but let me tell you this Liam you cock head, you are not the tenth of that man, and you never will be.

Perhaps if he didn't try and portray himself as Lennon so often, and perhaps if his brother didn't just lift riffs right out of the Beatles songbook then ok.

I know bands have influences and they become that band most of the time. People like Elastica just copied Blondie. Every boy band in the world doing covers instead of writing music.

I feel its taking advantage of the general public. The Beatles were genius, pure and simple. There music was original, innovative and it evolved. Very few bands have that anymore because its become less about the music and more about the money to fuel the lifestyle.

Thanks goodness for Crowded House.

currently dont give a toss about either, nothing good produced in some years. trading on former glories.

done.

I defy you to listen to Definitely Maybe and still tell me how [Poor language removed] Oasis are. They still piss all over the vast majority of so called bands at the moment.

Oh come on, Green Day can never match Oasis.

Some of Green Day's earlier stuff is OK, but Definately Maybe is one of the greatest albums of all time.

Anyway, they're two well different bands!

I thought 'Definitely Maybe' was a good album, but then their heads went up their own arses. Downhill all the way, and all those Beatles pretensions got on my nerves, too.

Never liked Green Day. Very sub-Clash wannabe 'punks.'

@Suits - Totally agree
@Welton - Definitely Maybe was there first album and still the best, so what does that tell you about the band? I saw them in 1994 at Glastonbury - on the second stage at 2pm, it was good, but it never got any better for me.

It's true that Oasis have never matched the heights of Def. Maybe, but then that's hardly a surprise. Noel had written all the songs for their first three albums before they even had a record deal. When they did get one, they chose what they saw as the best tracks and put them on Def. Maybe, the 'second best' tracks on (WTS?) Morning Glory and the rest on Be Here Now. They were both good records, but obviously not as good as their first effort.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants wasn't great, but there was some decent stuff on there. Same can be said for Heathen Chemistry. Don't Believe The Truth was another great album imo. Some quality tracks on there, and the writing of the songs was shared around the whole band. So Noel, Liam, Andy and Gem all have songs on there. There's a new album out next year and I can't wait. No doubt some people will judge it as [Poor language removed] without even listening to it but there you go.

Green Day are just awful in my opinion. But then again, it's almost a whole different 'genre' of music to Oasis. So to compare them is pretty stupid. Music is all about opinion, and to some Oasis will do no right. But if you actually take the time to listen to their music, it's bloody good stuff.

I knew a guy who claimed to have had sex (in da butt) with one of the guys from Green Day waaaay back when, before they came to prominence. Don't remember who it was, nor do I really care. Just some inside info for you
