David Smallman Everton 1978-

They signed Rush from Chester, we signed Smallman from Wrexham.

To be fair he had no luck with us. In his 5 years at the club he suffered two broken legs, a dislocated shoulder, torn hamstring, knee ligament damage and phlebitis of the calf.

Scored a great goal on his home debut against Sheff Utd. A couple of weeks before he also scored at Goodison in his 1st appearance for the club in a reserve game. Apparently on that occasion the security on the entrance to the ground wouldn’t let him in until some of the players came to his rescue and verified him to the commissioner. A couple of years later when Clive Thomas forced us to go to a replay against the RS at Maine Road, a similar thing happened when Smallman turned up and the security wouldn't let him into the players entrance - this time it was the supporters insistence that he was a player that persuaded them to let him in.

Everton & England right-side partner, Trevor Steven. This photo of ‘Tricky Trev’ (or Herbie #2) was probably taken in the 1988/89 season -
